This review is for the lady at reception. Her name is Dale. Long story short- Had a doctors appointment at 11:30. Diagnosed me and recommended admitting myself to hospital for specific circulatory system treatment. With all the waiting for my medical aid to authorise, time was passing rapidly. I am type 2 diabetic. Had breakfast at 07h15. By 14h30 I was still waiting in my wheelchair. Sudden sugar drop and this kind lady quickly bought me a pie to eat. Thank you Dale

Not impressed by Netcare Olivedale Hospital. From the ER to the ward staff to the accounts department. Unfriendly, unresponsive and unhelpful. Oh, and the slow dispensary at the pharmacy! We will most definitely not be making use of your services in future. We will gladly drive a bit further for better service. Your patients are your clients after all and we can take our money and our medical aid's money elsewhere. The 2 stars are for the one or two ward staff that did put in some effort and were at least friendly.

Yesterday my grandfather was taken to Olivedale ER. He is 86 years old. Had an extremely high fever and could not walk because of the pain. The Doctor who was on standby said that he has Bronchitis and he could go home.  We refused and wanted a second opinion. After his doctor who always sees him spoke to us, he the doctor said that he has a urinary infection. The ER doctor could not even tell from the urine tests that they did that he has a extremely high infection rate. The fact that the ER doctor wanted to send him home because he has “bronchitis” just shows the level of incompetence. That is not even the worst of all.  On the 19th of March 2022 we took our TWO day old daughter to the ER because she would not wake up or eat. The nurse on duty could not measure her SATS correctly because they don’t have the equipment to measure a new born’s SATS. After a long struggle we finally manage to measure it and her SATS was on 80%. She said to us that she does not know when a Doctor would see us. We might be looking at 2 hours. It did not phase her much.  We rushed to Sandton Mediclinic. Within 2 minutes TWO doctors were attending to her. Within 5 minutes she was admitted to the Neo Natal ICU and received oxygen. She spent 14 DAYS in the NICU. If we waited for a doctor at Olivedale she would have died.  Not once did the management of Olivedale came back to us after we reported this.  The reason for writing about this only now is because EVERY single person that visits the ER received the same treatment. And this is private hospital.

Worst ER ever. I waited for 3 hours before they attended to my emergency. When I finally got into the ward, the doctor was chilling and chatting to one of the nurses about how she’s been “off her diet”. I waited an additional 30 minutes on the bed before anyone attended to me as they chatted away in the halls. I even had to stand up and ask what’s going on before I got assistance. Never going to this hospital ever again. No different than going to a government hospital.

Maternity ward - lovely, treat mothers with love, care and patience. Pro breastfeeding, delayed cord cutting and skin-to-skin with baby. Nurses are well informed when it comes to breastfeeding. Visitors rules have become a little more lenient with immediate family, grandparents, siblings, in laws - it was lovely. The only downfalls were the night staff are incredibly loud and the aircon doesn't get put on, it is very hot in the wards

Radiology department reception are absolutely incompetent. My husband sent them the relevant documentation for radiation treatment to an email address that THEY had given to him, only to find out later that the address was for the wrong department and even though his contact details were on the sent email, no one from that department had the courtesy to come back to him with the correct information. Staff seem disinterested in assisting clients. Disappointing.

I gave birth at Netcare Olivedale about 3 months ago. From the day I was admitted and discharged, I received so much love and support from the maternity unit manager sister Matshidiso, the tshivhenda speaking male midwife I think they called him Taki and the night staff sister Millicent and sister Tebogo. The 3 ladies and gent deserve their flowers, it’s so refreshing to see people that are still passionate about their jobs. Thank you so much for making my stay pleasant.

I went into the ER for an inspection today and there was a curtain separating me and a little boy. The nurses attending the boy gave him a drip and when the boy started screaming from pain one of them said “this is why I don’t want kids”. And as he went on the mom was standing by the door and another nurse blurted out “why the **** is she standing at the door!” A drip is extremely painful for a little boy and the mother was just doing her job. Nurses have extremely poor bedside manners, making patients feel uncomfortable should be the last thing they do

I took my grandson for fever and diarrhea waited for hours to be seen by a doctor who then diagnosed him with upper respiratory infection and prescribed only pain medication. It was on one of the quiet nights and the doctor was operating like a snail and took an hour to write a wrong diagnosis and prescribed just pain medication n multi vitamin for severe diarrhea. From this day going forward I will never set my foot in any netcare facility

I have found the medical care to be good nurses, doctors, theatres, etc. The core offering for healing is generally sound. However: 1. Emergency room needs to seriously improve its very slow pace. It is understaffed. 2. Some wards are really aged and run down with old/broken beds, e.g., orthopaedics. 3. Halaal catering is substandard and is not recommended. Food is either being defrosted even scrambled eggs, or just old smelling off. Rather get food from home or try vegetarian options. Whoever does halaal catering needs to reconsider.
