Oakhurst Olives

About

International Award Winning Oakhurst Olives, produces Kalamata Table Olives and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Description

Oakhurst Kalamata Table Olives and Oakhurst Extra Virgin Olive Oil was established on Lemoendrif Farm in the beautiful Tulbagh Valley in 2004 when the first olive trees were planted.

The Kalamata trees gave their first harvest when they started bearing fruit in 2010. The Kalamata Olives are picked in March to April and are immediately put into brine. They stay in their barrels for a minimum of 10 months.
So what you are eating is pure Kalamata Olives, nothing more and nothing less!

The Oakhurst Extra Virgin Olive Oil is made of a blend of the fruits from 10 different varieties including leccino, frantoio, carotina trees, which are all propagated and grown on the farm. The olives are picked and cold extracted on the same day. The picking season is from March through to June. The oil is produced on it’s First Pressing thereby ensuring you of a delicious fresh and peppery Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Olive Oil has a shelf life of approximately 2 years but the rule of thumb is, The Fresher the Better. Older oil looses it’s aroma and taste over time, as the oil gets older, it begins to smell and taste like cooking oil and the good and healthy properties of the Olive Oil is lost.

We hand pick our entire crop, it is the only way you can ensure that only top quality fruit is used for processing.

Oakhurst Olives achieved, 1st place in category as well as the best Olive Oil in the competition, in the Annual Marco Zichella - Oliomio Extra Virgin Olive Oils of Southern Africa Awards held in Stellenbosch.

Oakhurst Olives gets Grand Mention Diploma's for both the Olive Oils entered into the First Tri-Nations Olive Oil Competition between Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. In total 97 Oils where entered into the competion. Oakhurst Olives achieved a TOP 10 position in both categories entered.

Oakhurst Olives works very closely with, The South African Olive Research Council, to be on the forefront of new developments and Cultivars. We are constantly evaluating new cultivars and processing methods for both the, Table Olives as well as the Oil Olives. Our Manager and research team have spend extensive time in Italy and Spain, talking to the leading Olive Professors from various Universities, on the latest developments. On that one trip, we had meetings with 14 Professors and went to 7 research facilities. This year, we went to the Olive Conference in Argentina and also visited Chile and Brazil.

The result of this research, we have adopted the method of high density planting. Traditionally, Olive trees have been planted at 400 trees per hectare. We plant at between 1200 and 1500 trees per hectare using poles and wires and thus forming Olive hedges. The benefits of doing this is huge. The orchards become a lot easier to manage and it doubles the production per hectare.

Oakhurst Olives also has it’s own Nursery where we propagate our own trees and develop new varieties, after an extensive evaluation period, some of these new varieties may be released into the market.

Absolutely amazing experience! We stayed in the Boathouse - fitted with all the luxuries you may need, and more. We just struggled to get the jacuzzi going and eventually gave up. The welcome basket and bottle of wine was an added surprise; and let's not forget the dogs, an absolute treat! They definitely thought we were there to visit them We also got a complimentary olive tasting with was exceptional. Delicious quality products! We left with arms of things and will go back for more
Thank you for accommodating us on the stoep with the most amazing view, because Sophia foxie was with us. Our hostess was amazing and entertaining. We learned something new about olive oil with regards to the taste and smell. Good products. Well worth visit. Love the dogs.
Great tasting experience! Friendly staff. The olives, the "broodjie, and marmalades are amazing.
Beautiful views Very quiet and relaxing, we visited on a Saturday and we were the only people. The olive tasting was cheap but very delicious, you have to visit if you are in the area.
Exciting tasting variation. Highly recommended
Such a gem of an activity with an amazing affordable rate R40 at the time of my visit. This olive oil tasting is a unique offering when compared to familiar wine, cheese, and fruit tasting. The host took her time explaining detailed information about the making of olive oil, best food pairings with certain olive oils, and an extra detailing of health benefits and developing an acumen for selecting good quality olive oil. The offering of the tapenadecapers not anchovies, the chill marmalade, and sweet marmalade with a carefully prepared bread also made with their olive oil offered a delectable, spicy and palletable experience. On site there are viewing windows where you can be a part of the making of the olive oil in real time. The farm is also set on a property with a boat house, horses and friendly jack russell with the backdrop of a beautiful mountain. I recommend the chilli marmalade :.
Olive oil, olive mermelade and olive tapenade tastings. Awesome products and location
Oakhurst Olives must be on every To Do list when visiting Tulbagh. They offer a delicious oil and olive tasting, which includes their tapenade, Olive marmalade and Olive & Chilli marmelade nice and spicy, as well a freshly baked ciabata to make it extra special.
I have bought the Oakhurst olives and olive oils for years - I love the kalamata olives that come in a simple brine that allow the delicious juicy olive flavours to come through. I bought a few large pouches of olives and for the first time I wasn't satisfied with the flavour. After I informed Oakhurst Olives of my complaint, I was blown away by their excellent customer service. Charmaine arranged to have all the pouches replaced, and very kindly sent a lovely letter and gift pack. I really appreciate such genuine care - it doesn't happen often. Thank you!
Very friendly people. Most spectacular settings. Premium product with many accolades. Worth a visit. Also have upmarket accomodation at The BoatHouse
