We had the most incredible stay at Oudrif. Clean, spacious cottages, and a beautiful view of the river and mountains. Jeanine and Bill made us feel so welcome and they cooked delicious, nutritious meals. We loved the communal dining arrangement and getting to know all the other interesting guests. All the animals on the property were so sweet - Jeanine’s love for animals is incredible. The guided hike up to see the rock paintings was a highlight. My only complaint is that we didn’t stay longer! We’ll know for next time :
Definitely, the right place for an awesome getaway and to feel taken care of. Brilliant food, excellent accommodation, superb care by Jeanine and Bill, and beautiful pristine surroundings. Be welcomed by excellent and clean accommodation, and nourished by superb meals prepared by Bill and Jeanine. Learn about the diverse fauna, flora, and the many bushman paintings on the morning walks, and be nurtured in this pristine valley. Rooms: Straw-bale houses with beautifully finishes and immaculately clean Food & drinks: Nourishing and delicious food prepared fresh every day
We loved our two nights at Ou Drif and only wish we could have stayed longer. But we know for sure that we will be visiting again. It is in a breathtakingly beautiful position and despite being so remote and "off grid", all creature comforts are taken care of. The spacious cottages are stylishly decorated and blend perfectly into the landscape, and are spaced apart to ensure total privacy. The food is absolutely delicious and I'm sure that even a meat lover would be completely won over by the tasty vegetarian fare that is so beautifully presented. We looked forward to every meal. In advance of our stay I was slightly hesitant about the communal dining arrangement but in the end we loved spending time talking to our hosts Jeanine and Bill and the other interesting guests. We were also wondering if we might find it difficult to adjust to the digital detox but in the end that was one of the highlights of our stay - so liberating to be off devices for the duration of our stay. just wish it had been for longer. We used our stand up paddle board on the river which was a real bonus and while my wife was supping, I could doze in a hammock under the trees on the river bank. We had the benefit of a full moon, lunar eclipse and mini heatwave to add to our wonderful stay - so blessed. The guided walks with Jeanine to see the rock art in the nearby caves was also one of the highlights of our stay. She is a brilliant guide and her love for the area is contagious.
What a wonderful place! Beautiful cottages, tastefully furnished and decorated. The area is remote, tranquil, full of plants and animals and geologically and archeologically interesting. Our hosts were super kind. They cook fantastic breakfasts, lunches and dinners and you enjoy those in their company. It feels like you’re friends invited to their home! Bill is a walking encyclopedia with tons of information about everything in the area, from the plants to the ancient rock paintings. Bonus: sweet cats and dogs all over the place! We absolutely enjoyed our stay.
There is no place more restful on the planet. A river, good company, the best care from your host and the best food and the still of the night. When you need to wind down, head to Oudrif in a rush. You will leave very unrushed.
A gem of a venue for anyone who requires peace and quiet and great food. Hosts Bill and Jeanine were wonderful and very interesting. The cottages are immaculately clean. Although the Doring River was low, were caught some broad mouthed bass and saw some huge yellow fish Clans. It's great to see that sustainable/eco tourism can be successful. Well worth a visit.
The best of the best remote luxury escape. The meals are just perfect. Don't think you will get just a meal, its a table of home made everything. The touches of perfection from the rooms, to the meals make every visit very, very special.
Wonderful hospitality,delicious food, great accommodation, fascinating experiences , and very knowledgeable HELPFUL hosts who help with anything, from soothing potions mixed on the premises for anything you might need mine was for sunburn and works instantly and smells wonderful of cooling peppermint among other things. I went to have a look when I was in the area with the aim of securing a booking in future. What a dissappointment. The manager was the rudest person I had the displeasure of meeting in my life. It may be a hidden treasure to visit, but sadly, as long as that man is there I'll stay far away. He even chased a few youngsters away that only wanted to launch their canoes in the river. What an a hole.
