What is Primary Healthcare?

Primary healthcare is the first line of medical care that is accessed by patients seeking healthcare. Primary healthcare is rendered in many settings ranging from private clinics to provincial and government clinic facilities. The main objective of PHP’s Primary Healthcare Services is the early detection of illnesses and the immediate and effective treatment thereof. Patient education and health awareness forms an integral part of primary healthcare.

Occupational Healthcare Services

• Conducting occupational medical examinations based on legislative requirements within South Africa including the following:
◦ Pre-employment medicals.
◦ Periodic medicals.
◦ Exit medicals.
• Design and implementation of client specific occupational healthcare systems and services.
• Medical examinations include the following:
◦ Medical questionnaire and history taking.
◦ Physical examination.
◦ Urine testing.
◦ Glucose testing.
◦ Cholesterol testing.
◦ Height and weight measuring.
◦ Vision screening.
◦ Audio testing.
◦ Drug testing, if required.
◦ Spirometry Tests and Lung Function Tests.

Injuries On Duty (IOD) Management

• Treatment of IOD's in the workplace where onsite clinics are in place.
• Assistance with the administration of IOD claims with the Department of Labour (Workman’s Compensation Claims).
• Assistance with follow-up appointments of staff who suffered an IOD.
• Assistance with follow-up on claims submitted.


Human Resource Assistance

• Assistance with health assessments when medical incapacity is considered.
• Advisory assistance with cases where health matters influence employees’ work performance.
• Sick note verification.
• Physical and emotional support for all employees diagnosed with chronic diseases or long-term illnesses within the workplace.

Wellness Programme Management
What is wellness management?

Wellness management is the ongoing improvement of the general well being of an individual. This is achieved through various initiatives that are aligned with relevant and current healthcare information, disease data and general healthcare initiatives within the scope of reference of the individual.
The main objective of the wellness programme is two-pronged:
1) The improvement of the individual’s health and;
2) The well being and the reduction in absenteeism rates for the employer as a direct result of healthier employees.

HIV Management
HIV Management is a discipline within the healthcare arena that is not only vast, but complex. HIV Management Systems fail due to many contributing factors. Successful management systems have proven to reach the main objectives of health education, health improvement initiatives and effective affordable access to treatment for patients who are infected with the virus. Though the implementation of a comprehensive system within the workplace that is affordable to the employer as well as the employee, the company’s objective is to ensure that employees remain healthy and are able to work for as long as possible while being infected.

• Disease education based on relevant and current information available (HIV Workshops).
• Health education campaigns addressing HIV/AIDS without excluding associated health matters such as sexual health, general health matters associated with HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, prevention, transmission and treatment.
• Implementation of wellness committees within the workplace.
• Implementation of support systems within the workplace such as Peer Education Programmes.
• Testing within our system for HIV:

• Diagnostic and disease management pathology testing including but not limited to CD 4 Counts, Viral Loads and Liver Function Tests, ultrasound and x-ray facilities.
• Multi-disciplinary team approach and treatment regime.
• Anti-retroviral Treatment based on the current successful protocols within the country.
• Treatment of opportunistic diseases within the primary healthcare offering.
• Preventative care and treatment.
• Continuous, personalised care for each individual including psychological care.

Wellness day facilitation

• The product range varies from basic wellness day interventions to extensive wellness events within the workplace.
• Services include the awareness and marketing of the event within the workplace prior to the event. Posters and flyers are offered to ensure a good attendance and uptake on the day of the event.
• Assistance with budget planning for the event.
• PHP will take care of all logistical arrangements on wellness days.
• All necessary medical equipment and consumable stock will be provided including the removal of medical waste.
• PHP may provide branded promotional gifts as incentive schemes to ensure maximum attendance.
• Services include the following:
◦ Venue preparation.
◦ Entertainment on request.
◦ Booking and arrangements with external health service providers such as medical aids, fitness gyms and nutritionists.
◦ Testing on the day:
• Blood pressure testing.
• Glucose testing.

• Voluntary HIV testing and counseling.

Standard Wellness day Reports will include the following:

1. Statistics addressing attendance and results of the day:
a. Number of employees who attended the event.
b. Statistics addressing health concerns.
c. Reporting on referrals made for such employees to seek additional diagnostic testing and possible treatment.
d. Advisory comments for the use of the employer.


EAP – Employee Assistance Programme

PHP offers an extensive counselling service that addresses ongoing and acute/trauma cases. A team of qualified counsellors and psychologists are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Services are rendered through a counselling line as well as personal counselling sessions based on an appointment system.

Counselling services include:

1. Trauma counselling.
2. General counselling for depression, stress, anxiety etc.
3. Life skill counselling.
4. Crisis management.
5. Conflict management counselling.
6. Financial management advice.


Training:

The following training courses are provided but not limited to:

• First aid.
• Basic fire fighting.

• HIV workshops.

Training may take place on the site of the employer or at our training centres.
Training courses are accredited with the relevant SETAS.
Facilitators are qualified and experienced in the subject matters.
Training material and equipment is provided by PHP.

Mobile Services:

PHP offers a range of services in the form of mobile clinics. The key objective is to reach individuals that require access to the health care system. Mobile services are beneficial to business entities including Occupational Health Services, Primary Health Care and X-ray facilities.

“MY HEALTH”

1. “My Health” is a product offered by PHP to the public and private entities.
2. This product offers services for a monthly fee for services rendered within the clinic facilities.
3. “My Health” is not medical insurance or a medical aid scheme. It is based on services rendered for a set fee paid by the member or company on a monthly basis.
4. Services offered for the set fee is as follows:
