Robynne Thomson graduated in 2006 from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal and is a qualified Clinical Psychologist.
She has considerable experience working with individuals experiencing a range of psychological difficulties such as:
•Various Anxiety Disorders including Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD),various phobia's
•Depression including Bipolar Mood Disorder
•Relationship issues with partners, parents, siblings, peers and authority figures
•Self-Harming behaviour in adolescents and adults
In treating emotional and psychological difficulties Robynne uses a number of therapeutic techniques, depending on the age of the client and the nature and chronicity of the problem. Her training is psychodynamic in orientation, which places emphasis on childhood experiences and the important role of the unconscious. She uses a variety of therapeutic techniques ranging from directive (where the individual is given reasonably structured activities) to non-directive (where the individual speaks or plays spontaneously, without active direction of the therapist).
When working with adults, Robynne believes that optimal change can only take place within the safety of a completely non-judgemental and trusting relationship with the therapist. She therefore places emphasis on a positive rapport between therapist and client. As such she acknowledges the importance of a good fit between therapist and client.
