Roopanands is South Africa's largest importer of Indian music, film, literature, clothing and other cultural items.
Roopanands commenced business in 1932 by 2 brothers- Mr. Dhonday Roopanand and Mr. Sewbaran Roopanad. The store commenced with very humble beginnings importing and selling Indian vernacular books, Indian musical instruments, etc.
In 1966- after graduating from university , Mr. Arvind Roopanand turned the business around into a giant that it is today.
Roopanands is a household name for anything you want from India. It is one of the oldest Indian private owned business in the country with a flagship store in Springfield park in Durban. Its survival is due to the fact that it provides quality merchandise to its customer’s at very reasonable prices –sometimes cheaper than what you would pay in India –and it lives to the slogan – WE BRING INDIA TO YOU.
