This is a very specious library with cool architecture. I visited when the elevator was not working which was a wonderful experience because I took the ramp all the way up and appreciated the beauty of all the floors. The library also has beacons facing the Nelson Mandela square which is an awesome place to get fresh air when you’re tired on reading. The library staff are friendly and professional, always willing to help their clients with anything they can’t find or understand.

I studied here every weekday for a year. There’s plenty of space, I love the study area- great for concentrating. If you’re going there during winter, dress warmly the windows are left open- which is good to avoid a stuffy space. The librarians are very helpful and friendly. The problem is the common workers cleaners/ maintenance workers/ the cops, etc they’re the ones who cause disturbances by talking too loud- it’s so annoying.

Clean and well kept. Pity the computers may not be used for research due to Covid 19 protocols. They do however have Wi-Fi available throughout building.

Very beautiful library. It is an example of modern libraries. It has a very large collection of fiction and non-fiction books. It has different sections that one doesn't find in any public library such as, audio-visual room where you can watch your old movies via VHS or listen to the old cassettes using an old cassette player. The library is filled with South African culture and foreign as well. It also has an eLearning classroom where the public can do online causes for free. Visit

The most prominent library in Johannesburg is closed on weekends. I’m sorry but you are completely missing the point. People work during the week and conduct recreational activities on the weekend.  You are not a bank from the 1990s.

I went to the library for the sale on the 26 January 2019. They had lots of books for R20 each. I love reading books so this was my chance to buy more books for less. I will definately be going back for more sales. Its a perfect place for avid readers.

Great study place! Generally quiet and open to the all the public. You need proof of residence and ID to borrow  books. Good variety of books on different subjects

Never got to experience the place because it's closed on a Saturday. Please update the times on the internet to avoid any inconveniences. I woke up and went to the library assuming it's open as per the times shown on the internet. Just to find it closed.

I am a member of this library since 2012 and I read only fiction novels.So my review is strictly considering that.The library is absolutely clean,spacious, has proper and enough sitting arrangements.The only drawback I find is no washroom closeby . The staff is ever smiling and helpful even though it is extremely busy on Saturdays.The books collection is vast and at a nominal fees per year I can borrow as many as 8 books everytime I want. If I have not finished reading I can extend my due date over the phone itself.I see school and university students taking notes here.It is very peaceful for them also to study here.All the best guys and keep up the good work!
