Selborne Golf Estate, Hotel and Spa

About

Situated in the seaside town of Pennington on the KZN South Coast, Selborne Hotel, Spa and Golf Estate offers a prime location from which to holiday.

Description

Selborne Golf Estate, Hotel and Spa has its origins rooted in our colonial heritage. The estate takes its name from the original owner, the Secretary for the Colonies, Lord Selborne, and the whippet in our logo is derived from the Selborne Family Crest.

The Manor House passed into the hands of the M.D of Reynolds Brothers Ltd, and the Manor house was built in 1954 by Vernon Crookes. In 1979, Denis Barker, a dairy farmer, purchased the property from the estate of Crookes, and set about transforming it into a residential golf estate.

Experience the grandeur of these gentle times at this prestigious Hotel, where some of the fine oak panelling, window panes and flooring originally imported from England are still in evidence.

Selborne Hotel features a wellness spa, fine dining at The Lord Selborne, casual dining at The Terrace, in-room dining, a world-class golf course, conference facilities, a wedding chapel and full wedding facilities.

I can not speak highly enough on the service and staff at Selborne Golf estate. Cyprian and Moses as well as all the staff there are so attentive and friendly, they go above and beyond to make sure that your time is enjoyable. This is the best service you will receive! Thank you for making our time so lovely.Rooms: 4/5
My experience at the “4star hotel” I would start of by saying that this had to be the worst place I have ever been to. It was me and my husband’s wedding anniversary .Firstly be had booked this 2 day stay through Agonda. When we arrived we where blocked at the main gate and where asked for a code to access. We than had to call reception at my own cost asking for this code that they didn’t even have. When we got to reception they didn’t even know we were supposed to be checking in and had to quickly try to accommodate us. Than they advised us they didn’t have the room we requested and gave us a cheaper option of which we did argue as we did pay more for the better room. We than where given the room and to our disgust it had an awful funny musty smell, the bed sheets where stained, the fan did not work and was literally on the verge of falling down. The floors where filthy and we didn’t have any outside chairs or tables which was supposed to be there as shown on the pics. The door leading to the patio lock was broken and wasn’t able to lock. The bath tub was dirty, and really what got to us was how many cockroaches where in that room. We decided to go for supper at the restaurant and they informed us they are only doing buffet and would not be able to anything else off the menu. It was very disappointing as we are vegetarians and there are such limited option on a buffet and would not be worth spending R500+ for 2 of us to eat basically nothing. We went to the club house and was even more disappointed as we ordered crumbed mushrooms which we paid R50 for 8 only, R50 for 1spoon of plain spaghetti with butter as my child doesn’t like any sauce. I was so mortified with this. They did adjust it but we were completely dissatisfied. The next day we went for breakfast and the only options for us vegetarians was toast, yogurt and cereals. At lunch they were catering for 250 people for a conference and when we asked if they can just make us a pizza or something they said they couldn’t. We didn’t end up eating. We called the restaurant around 7pm to ask if we can order a toasted cheese sandwich and they said they will let us know but didn’t get back to us. We spend 2 days of misery at this place. The staff are also very rude and not friendly at all. All I can say is this place is over rated and I would not recommend anyone to go there, you will waste your money. It’s not extravagant. The basic B&B’s are more accommodation than this ‘4 Star Hotel” Will never go to that place again!
Clean rooms, great smell as you enter the room. Food was lovely will definitely be visiting there againRooms: 5/5
Rooms are a bit dated, but spacious. Staff are lovely & friendly. Bit noisy with the N2 so near by. But grounds are beautiful & the private beach club & beach access are great. Food ok, some great items ie the lamb shank & the curry, some mediocre items ie the oxtailRooms: 4/5
I would not recommend this hotel for the price one pays. I am surprised that it has four stars. It is most likely due to the scenery and golf course. There is no room service. The room was dirty- stains on the sheets and old blood marks on the walls. Towels were not provided and I had to wait for hours before I received them. Both the clubhouse and restaurant food served very average food at a high cost. I was told I can only order a cappuccino after breakfast at 10 am. Staff did not communicate properly and would answer differently to the same question.
To be honest, the 4* needs reviewing. I'd rate it 3*. Every toilet brush cleaner is rusty room or in hallways. The cornice edges in bathroom are filthy needs dusting AND washing. Two people booked into a room should equal two lounge chairs with table alongside/between & to sit to watch TV. We had x1 chair. Dinner took ONE HOUR to arrive at our table on our first night! A hosepipe was left across the floor between all rooms 21 - 24, a tripping hazard during our 2 night stay. The barman needs to be taught etiquette when dealing with customers: firstly to greet, then how to address customers. The second evening of dining, ONE lady was trying to be both front reception to greet & seat patrons as well as be a waitress to take orders & serve the meals AND the bar drinks. On a positive note, reception staff were friendly, diningroom staff friendly, the La Vita Spar staff were amazing!
Fantastic is all I can say. Facility is clean, course is Fanatastic, layout is short, but tricky and challenging. If the wind is high like we experienced, it does make the course though to play, but still fun to play. Views are beautiful. Scenery is great. Really enjoyed my visit. Would definitely come back again and recommend anyone to go and play.
Popped in for lunch, wow, awesome sushi and a fantastic steak, chips and pepper sauce.....fantastic meal for two under R350 including drinks. Very decent setting as wellLocation: 5/5
The golf course is amazing. It's challenging, very well kept and each green has its own unique challenge. Overall a great course to add to your list of "been there's"
Lovely gardens and amazing Restaurant. Waiters are first class. We had lunch there and it was really good - We loved the Christmas decorations in the gardens for the kids. Food was amazing
