Shanghai Makimono Chinese&Sushi Restaurant

*Disclaimer, never tried anything but the sushi* Have been on the hunt for an affordable, mid week sushi spot that can still deliver quality, fresh sushi and I have to say, this spot is probably the best! 4th order tonight and consistency has been good. Rice has been fresh, well made and used sparingly. Fish, also fresh and generously apportioned. Prices seem to have increased recently but happy to pay slightly more for quality. Keep it up.

I have been a huge fan of the sushi here for a long time....but today was just a dud. The sushi was covered in a sauce and not cut correctly. Really disappointed. Going to have to find a new sushi spot. When I asked what was up they seemed to think that I was complimenting the food. Rather confusing

Sushi was hardly edible, felt sick today. Sushi has too much rice making it extremely uncomfortable to eat. Sushi was really below standard and nothing to brag home about. We ordered the sushi buffet and the waitress watched us the whole time making it uneasy for us to eat and enjoy the time. Hygiene should also be pointed out, please do better. We ordered two meals a sweet and sour chicken and crispy beef both with egg fried rice. There was very little meat in either and both were cremated. I have no idea how their rating is so high

I happened upon Shanghai Makimono purely by chance when my regular sushi spot was closed and it's become my go-to sushi spot. Massive potions of fresh, delicious sashimi, generous chef's special and California rolls which aren't stuffed with rice, and perfect presentation. I only ever order from Mr Delivery and I've never received a messy box. The portion in the picture cost me under R300, including delivery excluding tip so excellent value for money too.

Highly dissatisfied, and above all, MASSIVELY disappointed. I have supported this restaurant for years. I have ordered the pad thai before, which I ordered today as a comfort for being home and needing something nice to eat so i dont have to cook. The pad thai tasted NOTHING like it used to: BLAND, no flavour, and the noodles stale. I then asked if they could please make up for this inedible meal by rather sending me a thai green curry, I have never had a thai green curry this sweet in my life. It was was if my afrikaans great aunt had asian guests over and only heard that chilli was a thai ingredient... and to make up for her lack of knowledge she "sugar coated" it with leftover afrikaans pudding ingredients, nl, maizeena and condensemilk. My complaint was received with no real or genuine apology or comforting response. I was merely concerned that the chef wasnt doing his best tonight, but apparently there is something wrong with both my memory, and both me and my friend who did a chef course in thailands tastebuds.#chickenalaking texture with #sagopudding flavour, somebody should apologise to thailand. Hate to have to not support someone I have supported for years. Work on your customer service please.

Good first experience. Will definitely recommend and return for more delicious sushi.

The price is great.The food is fresh,as they have a big student following,so they turn over all the time.The father,mother,daughter & son combination,great service.They really try to please their customers.Will recommend any day.

Ordered the miso soup on uber eats and it was awful. I love miso soup but this was inedibly salty. I managed to swallow a spoonful after adding 2 cups of water, but even then it was still way too salty and of course adding water just makes it cold. I ended up not eating it. I have no idea how they managed to mess it up so bad. Still haven’t received a refund and will never order from here again.

Was Uber delivery- sushi lying all over the place and some even upside down Rice tasted old - was dry and hard The fried ones were terrible, not even crispy. Did not even eat then. The fish was dry and overcooked. Soya sauce all over the containers. Definitely did not take as good as the first time we ordered. Did they have a different sushi chef? A very disappointing supper!
