Description

St Davids is named after the patron Saint of Wales who was famously known for service to his community. Legend has it that on one occasion while preaching a dove descended on his shoulder so that his message could be heard. Over 50 churches in South Wales were dedicated to him.

St Davids Sunridge Park began in the family home of Les & June Willard in 1963 who opened their residence every Sunday morning for Sunday school classes.

The community embraced the Congregational model and St Davids Congregational Church was launched in 1964. Various Congregational Ministers presided over the fledgling church where lay preachers officiated at regular services. Rev Ron Aston became the first Layman of St Davids to be ordained into the Christian Ministry. A church decision led to St Davids leaving the Union Congregational Church & aligning itself to the Evangelical fellowship of Congregational Churches of South Africa.

Years later St Davids members voted to retain autonomy but sever ties with the E.F.C.C. Following Rev Aston’s passing Rev Thomas Scarborough was called to serve the Congregation. After more than 10 years of pastoring the Church Rev Thomas was called to succeed his father Dr Charles Scarborough at Sea Point Congregational Church in Cape Town.

Rev Harry Collier was appointed Minister of St Davids but resigned after only serving one year. Rev Bruce Woolard was requested to preside over St Davids as the interim Minister for 12 months after which he was appointed the official Minister assisted by the Pastoral team of St Marks. For almost 20 years Dr Woolard has been at the helm serving both St Davids & St Marks and currently is assisted by Pastor Andrew Lamont-Turner, Rev Warren Watermeyer and Rev Kenneth Claassen.

I attended a funeral. Staff of St Davids were very friendly, kind & helpful, before & after the service. Neatly keep building & surrounds.
St. David's is still what a church is meant to be. It is a Bible based church, old traditional hymns, songs and pews. Every Sunday the message is well prepared, expertly presented and passionately received. This church is not about self but about Jesus and everything that this church does is to honor our Lord and Savior. You won't find bright lights here along with big bands and latest music, nor will you find a motivational speech to make you feel better about yourself because the message has been sugar coated and tailor made in order for you to hear what you want to hear. Instead what you will find here is the truth. Plain and simple truth. No lies. No false promises. No motivational pep talks. You will also find a family to offer you with support and encouragement. A fellowship of believers whose most common interest and most important relationship that they have is with Jesus. And if you haven't found Him yet, you are sure to find Him here!! Dr. Bruce Woolard is fantastic at his delivery, his warmth, hospitality, absolutely everything. This is a church where everyone is welcome and is more of a home than a church to me. I look forward to Sunday mornings because I cannot wait to hear what will be preached and to spend some good quality time in fellowship with others. Why not come and give it a try? You could even come in your pyjamas and bring along your coffee and receive the message in your car as St. David's also do a "drive in" church which was started due to Covid and the fact that churches were closed. This way you get to stay in your car and receive the message over your radio! I would however strongly recommend that you come into the church and have the personal experience of fellowship which just cannot be compared to sitting in your car! LOVE THIS CHURCH!
Where one worships God I ll give 5 star rating
