My favourite butchery in Durban! Star Meats is spotlessly clean and staff put the customer first with fantastic service. Prices are reasonable but definitely not the cheapest in town. You get what you pay for though. They have an impressive assortment of frozen vegetarian options too. A favourite amongst the locals!

A decent butcher in the heart of Overport catering for all your needs. Wide variety of meat products to choose from. Parking is a bit of an issue if you have a large size vehicle. Try visiting this place during off peak hours to allow yourself to take in all they have to offer.

Being one of my favorite butcher that I vist regularly I had the most disappointing experience where I have contacted star meats for a quote for a function I ended up making a number of call and had no response to date that I had to get it ordered from else where. Star meats service has dropped terribly. After advertising at love at fist bite this is not the service I expected very disappointed.

Parking can be a problem but its really not to bad

I visited Star Meats yesterday 8th of September 2022. It was early in the day, so there were plenty of parking available. I can only imagine the this place at peak hours. The is modern neat and clean with plenty of space to avoid being bumped. They have a huge selection of fresh meats to offer, in all cuts. Also a selection of cold and processed meats, a bakery is also located within with tasty treats. I bought the Afgan spiced and marinated lamb and spicy sausage. They did not disappoint both were flavorsome, and the sausage was not over spicy. A good qultity sausage is also one of my favorites, done on a braai. If you are in the Overport area pay them a visit. Recommend.

Tried their mutton sausages for the first time, perhaps it will be the last time!!! Their prices are too high and the quality of the sausages that I tried made me feel sick .... Had a fatty smell and taste!!!! Won't be buying their sausages again especially not at R105 a kg. Jolly meats are way better and cheaper!!! Jolly meats is worth the drive for the quality!!!! And by the way, did you know that your polony is more expensive than real meat!!!! @ R195 a kg, even lamb is cheaper per kg!!!! You guys are a rip off!!! Sad, from one of the best for one of the worst in Durban!!!

Bought half lamb and cooked it well. The meat tasted like it was sheep and not lamb. It was hard and chewy. Quality of Star Meats products has gone down terribly. After 15 years of shopping at Star Meats, they have lost me as a customer.

Update 2022 The outside take away section is really a winner. The burgers are out of this world. Thick and juicy. Excellent idea from the owners. The wors rolls are also excellent Ordered a mutton bunny from the deli after almost a year. Was really impressed with the quality. Lovely small pieces of soft succulent meat cooked to perfection. Flavor of the curry was amazing and almost like a home cooked meal. Seems like the new owners have injected a spark into the business. Well done to the cook. Food was fresh, tasty and well packed. Really a huge difference from the last time I ordered here. Keep up the good work. They need to have more special offers as their prices are quite high on the butchery items. Store is really neat
