Excellent museum to visit. Plenty to see from way back to recent times. All the displays were interesting and informative. The museum is clean and it is easy to follow the 'routes'. Grounds are well kept and nice.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Amazing array of history of thr Anglo boer. World War 1, Ghandi, consol glass, Zulu culture and history and mining. Worth a visit
We loved the way everything was displayed. It is very nostalgic as you walk through every separate display area. The glass museum is a must. Not everything on display is for us but yet we enjoyed it. At R40.00pp it's worth it.Visited onWeekday
Definitely worth the visit!! Everything is really well maintained and we are so thankful that we got to hear Pam McFadden, tell us about the rich history of Dundee and surrounding areas! There are picnic areas as well as braai facilities.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
This museum is definitely worth a visit. They have an exceptional wide variety of information and exhibits. The Anglo-Boer and Anglo-Zulu wars are captured in detail. There is also a display on the mining industry. Allow yourself adequate time to visit all the different exhibition houses - there is a lot to see and appreciate. They charge a small entrance fee, have convenient restrooms and observe covid regulations. After the meandering you can enjoy a light meal at the restaurant.
Interesting Museum about all different epochs of the local history and South African history. Coal mining, Zulu/Boer wars, Passive resistance etc. The combination and presentation of information is a bit outdated and haphazard. Some displays are really run down. Interesting to have a look nonetheless. The landscaping is beautiful. Nice picnic areas. Free entrance for all South Africans on Saturdays. Free parking.
Highly recommended. Considering that entry is free, the museum is very well looked after. Beatiful displays.
I would rate Talana as one of the best Museums I have seen in South Africa, and I have seen many. There are numerous, varied exhibits and if you really want to take full advantage, you should book a guide, and be prepared to spend the entire day here. There is just way too much to see. The glass museum is particularly insightful with some pieces created by our own glass-artists. We had a very well traveled Russian friend with us, who reckoned it was one of her best experiences in South Africa. There is also a reasonably priced restaurant which we did not use, or like us, you can pack a nice picnic basket. The entry fees are exceptionally reasonable, and the experience is one you really need to share with your children. Just remember that there are no guides available on a Sunday. There is ample reasonably priced accommodation nearby and I personally recommend Kwa-Rie Caravan park and lodge. It will make for a perfect weekend getaway for any family.l
Great museum on the site of the Battle of Talana Hill in 1899, the first battle of the Boer war. Loads of info about the war, very moving cemetery with gravestones of dead fighters. Also many exits about mining and other industry of the area. And a great tea room.
