I'm a big Baron fan but my last visit left me very disappointed. My Oxtail was below standard. It was cut with a saw, not separated like it should be. The sauce was average. The other meal at the table the table was a Barons Rump. They have taken to giving a blob of meat instead of a slice with a bit of fat like the menu shows. Poor show Baron.
Good atmosphere
Being spoilt a little in an upmarket restaurant is always pleasant and the steaks were perfect. The desserts were not bad either.
Definitely one of the better Baron's, plenty of seating space inside, outside and by the bar. Dedicated smoking area's are clearly visible so if you don't like the smell of smoke you'll be OK. Food is good but pricey. Service is top class. Plenty of parking available. Bonus tip! Try the potato skins, it comes in a lake of tasty molten cheese!
Staff too busy chatting with each to care about customers. Food choices not great if you can only eat vegetables. Saving grace is that the manager was able to do a crispy baked potato for mum when we explained. Seemed like lots of groups meeting for a drink. Otherwise can be given a miss.
Rough around the edges. I got there around 11am - and asked if they were open. They said yes. I asked if they have plugs available, since I needed to get some work done. They said yes, and pointed me to the plugs. As I got ready to sit down, I got asked to move, since they're not open yet. Eventually I find another plug after the cleaner said they didn't have any, and settled down. After an hour, I still received no service, and the waiters said they're still cleaning. Another hour went by, before I decided to move to the original spot - at which point a waiter noticed me again! Don't say you're open for business if you're too busy cleaning and preparing for the day to actually take some orders.
Great vibes, great snack platters, great drinks and great food. Good for takeaway and sit down and eat there. No complaints at all. Also has generators so good for a hot meal in load shedding.
I must say, the thing I love about the Baron the most is their Banting menu. This particular Baron is very "loud", so if you are auditory sensitive/defensive I would maybe give it a skip. Service was good though and the food presentation also good.
My sister and decided to have a lunch after many years, and chose The Baron out of convenience for us both. Apon arrival I was greeted by extremely happy looking, helpful staff who pointed me to my table. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable with regards to the menu and other specials running. He was there every time we needed anything, yet he allowed us space to chat and catch up. We had a prego platter which was enough for us, and it was scrummy. Full of flavour. Very nice. as the afternoon became evening, the vibe came alive, and I was tempted to stay, but as a family man, responsibilities lie elsewhere. Definitely going to take the wife there on a lively date night. Wouldn't take the kids thou...
The vibe was good...the was rugby on TV but the bar service was shocking. I had to wait and then get the waiter's attention in order to get a drink. Would hate to see how they would handle a huge crowd.
