When I visit Durban, KwaZulu Natal, I have to follow a family tradition and go to The Oriental Restaurant. They used to be at The Workshop in the heart of the city. They may have relocated, but the flavors have remained consistent. I've always had the same order: their famous Mutton Bunny Chow with a Coke. Nothing else will suffice.
I once visited The Oriental back when it was at The Workshop - I always tell everyone who will listen, that they had served the best Bunny Chow I had ever tasted. Now that it's at Galleria Mall, we tried the mixed platter for dinner which was absolutely delicious. We loved it so much, the second time we ate here, we ordered mutton biryani for lunch. Be prepared to wait for a long time for your food though! It gets really busy and it's easy to understand why. Definitely a must try more than once! Also halaal.
Had an amazing breyani and bunny chow. We know Durban has thee most tasty curries in SA!
The stuff at Oriental Cowey Park can learn a thing about customer service. I asked for extra fresh coriander from 3 different stuff members. Only to be told they don't do that. Honestly a bunch of coriander costs R8. It certainly ain't something they could be stingy about. This was certainly the last time I will be ordering from this p a particular branch again. Not to mention how all the food is served in takeaway containers only.
Visited on a Friday midday. Was quiet busy, but we were seated and attended to promptly. The take away patrons formed a small line at the store, adding to its popularity. We opted for the junior T bone steak and chips, and a quarter lamb bunny, which they are apparently famous for.We had to. Would you go to Nandos and order just the veg? Ok so the steak, juicy, tender flame grilled and basted with a light bbq basting sauce. Accompanied by grilled mixed peppers, and crispy chips, it was really good . Then.. the bunny. I believe this to be the quintessential "durban bunny" . A spicy curry, loaded with lamb, bursting with flavours of cumin, cinnamon, tumeric and cloves. Encasing the curry was a slab of fresh white bread, that gorged itself on the curry and took on the gravy and flavor of the curry with ease. Really good! Prices are reasonable Fully Halaal. The best mutton bunny! Delicious, Halaal and well sized portions. Meat is tender. Seating area is available. The area is clean and service is good. Vegetarian options: Many options available. The Beans bunny is a favoutite too. Parking: Parking is available on the roadside as well is in 2 parking areas.
When you feel like having home made food but the wife isn't up to cooking, Orientals is where you want to be at. Their kheer is a must after having any of their delicious main course. Service with a smile as always. They also deliver for my convenience. Try their new range of burgers in their new set up just next door. You will love it.Food: 5/5
Was rather disappointed with the service and presentation of the food. The restaurant was empty, and we were promptly seated . Our food didn't take long to arrive, but to my surprise, my bunny arrived wrapped in foil in a packet! The whole presentation and packaging was terrible! A complete waste of going to sit down to enjoy a bunny when it arrives like that.
Ordered two vegetable breyanis. I expected a piping hot breyani but it was rather cold. In their defence it was loadshedding but should inform us they may have a problem with heating food so that we have a choice as a customer to go elsewhere. Did not enjoy my meal.Food: 2/5
The food is great. The new location is best suited for a takeaway. The food was delicious and great service from the owner. A must if you visiting Durban for the best bunny chows. The keer was also one of my all time favourites.Food: 5/5
