The Bread Gypsy crafts a variety of robust, wood-fired artisan bread, using only stoneground flour, water and wild yeast - devoid of harmful additives.
At The Bread Gypsy, we are passionate about making bread the way mother nature intended – with just flour, water, wild yeast and salt. We use only stone ground flour, which has been mindfully milled. Why? Because stone-ground flour contains all the inherent goodness of the wheat grain and is devoid of harmful chemicals, flour conditioners and preservatives.
We hand craft a variety of rustic and robust artisan style breads, all of which are baked in wood-fired ovens, which serves to bring out the best flavour and texture in the bread. Many of our breads undergo a protracted fermentation period, which gives the gluten proteins time break down, making the bread more readily digestible and also far more flavourful.
Our bread and pastries are available at The Lucky Bread Company’s at the Brooklyn Mall, The Mall of Africa and the OR Thambo International Airport. We also trade at The Boeremark, Hazelwood Food Market and the Irene Village Market on Saturdays.
