The University of Durban-Westville was a university situated in Westville, Durban, South Africa, which opened in 1972. It is now one of the campuses of the University of KwaZulu-Natal. It was initially established for Indians, as during apartheid there were few universities that admitted non-White students. Prior to the building of UDW, Indian students traveled by ferry to a facility at Salisbury Island, which had been established in 1961 as the University College for Indians UDW offered degrees in commerce, law, engineering, and sciences. It's a great university! From our friendly Security guards, to the helpful SRC, and our helpful Lecturers. The cafeteria, admas shop, Makhabane is where we all bond over delicious breakfast, lunch and supper. There are so many incredible places to chill with your study mates or friends to study. The ground is my fave spot - filled with this togetherness, and we take that energy all the way to our buses and eventually to our res'. Great managers I know studied here and it's rooted deep to the core- treating each individual as a masterpiece.
Still a decent institute of learning offering most courses & also lots of sporting activities
Love it! Got my Computer Science undergraduate degree and an Information Systems post grad here and I've had an excellent start to my career because of it. Look no further for Computer Science; the quality of education here is one of the best on the continent.
Was here for the national volleyball tournament , was excited to meet players from around South Africa.
A very good looking place.
If you are an international student, DO NOT consider studying here. Your degree will not be recognised in the USA. My wife got a degree in speech therapy and was also unable to practice in South Africa. Instead she volunteers. So on top of the terrible study experience, incompetent lecturers, constant campus shut downs due to protests and high fees for international students, the degree has little value for us. That being said, we love KZN just not UKZN and the students and hearing about her helping others were definite highlights. I'm glad for the experience but feel that it's important to warn others. Instead, consider a real university in the Western Cape.
As a place of employment, it had its ups and downs. Some leadership was / is completely incompetent, others are good but hampered by all sorts of bureaucratic red tape. As an educational institution, I witnessed numerous students cheating or being outright dismal, yet I suspect they still went on to graduate. I'm not at all disappointed that they renamed from Natal University to UKZN. Or put it this way... I wouldn't send my kids to study there.
It's a quiet beautiful place
Magnificent experience I'm having at this university, definitely on of the best in South Africa and even the world...
It's a very nice place to be at but sometimes very stressful when you are a student like me, always busy
