We walked the archaeology route. Unfortunately, we didn't see any animals on this route. The only downside of the walk is that it's close to the main road. We will visit again to walk one of the other trails.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
We love going on hikes. Windy Brow is close to home Pretoria, about 3.5km from Cullinan. They have three hiking trials and boast views of the Premiere Diamond Mine. The hiking trial we took was really not difficult. The green route consists of 3 loops. Each loop can be done independently or combined to form a longer route. Total: 10km 1km, 3km or 5km Would definitely recommend
We went to the game reserve on Sat 9 Jan 2022. We love to hike and we are always looking for new places to explore. At the farm entrance gate there is a board advising you to phone a number to gain access to the property. Once in, we parked the car and we proceeded to the area where you are asked to pay R50 each - cash only. There are several hikes to choose from, but the guy at the "reception" explained to us that only the archeology trail had the path clear while in the other trails the grass was not cut. So we started the archeology trail which is nice but we haven't seen anything archeological, maybe we missed it.... and we came back at the starting point. We then decided to start with the geology trail even if the grass was high on the path. About halfway into the hike we noticed that we were covered in ticks! We understand that there is game on the farm and we had a very rainy season but it was very off-putting! We had ticks crawling everywhere, I even found some on my neck!. So we decided to take a shortcut through the farm main road and walk straight back to the car. It is overall a beautiful place and the trails are clearly marked but we don't know if we will be back soon......
Lovely for a family outing. Even saw three giraffes on our hike.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
We came here for the first time and wanted to do the 7.5km hike via the ecology route. Unfortunately for us only the archaeology route had been cut and maintained since they closed last year in late December. But that's were the disappointment ended. We did the Archaeology route in the Saturday morning drizzle and it was just a great and refreshing experience. The route isn't tough at all for 80% of the way you walk in lovely bushland mostly flat yet uneven terrain, it was a bit muddy for us in the soft rain which added a slippery element of fun. You do get a lovely small climb towards the end as you go over a little hill and get a few good views. It's about 4.5km trek in total an evaluation of around 80m. And we were so happy to see the giraffes as we feared we wouldn't see them on our shorter route. We also saw zebra in the parking area on our way out. Most definitely coming back for more . This space offers a lot and we explored just a small portion of it. They also offer game drives and mountain biking trails. The restaurant wasn't open when we went which is something else we would like to try .
What an awesome experience to view a variety of wildlife a few km from Cullinan.
A hidden gem.. most relaxing hiking experience. Untouched area. We a group of 10 people visited Windy Brow last week end. The road is good, Tar surface . On arrival , He explains the route and options. R 50 for adults and R 30 for little ones. Cash Only. The toilets are very clean and neat. The picnic area is big and open with lots of tree. There are many hiking options. All routes are well marked and cleared- impossible to get lost . grass cutting was done last month. We took the 7.5 km one first. It was not very easy or very difficult. The 9 year old one could do it. The route is very nice with some ups and downs. manageable for a normal person. It took 2.5 hrs to finish 7.5 kms. Then at the picnic area we had a small picnic and then we went for the 4 km one to see the Giraffe. That is an unforgettable walk and experience. there were total 7 Giraffes. The walk way was well marked and totally flat- so anybody can walk there. There is an adventure corner at the end which is very interesting for the kinds- please do not miss this area. Please note there are no swimming pools or shops there now- they are planning for it in coming months. Overall the visit was totally safe, relaxing, clean, natural and rejuvenating. We will definitely come back here. Thanks for the great people maintaining this farm and facility.
Enjoyed the hike with the group and the chilling part after the hikeVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Upon arrival someone will give you a quick briefing about what to expect from each of the four trails. Entrance costs R50 per person, and R25 per child under the age of ten. You can pay with cash or card. We did the 7,5 km route during our last visit, which is the longest trail with a lot of uphill sections. If you are very unfit, this route will be a bit challenging. But it is an interesting trail with beautiful scenery and nice views, and I would recommend it to anyone who is up for the challenge. Although there were other hikers, the trails were delightfully quiet, so there weren't any large crowds and no one followed too closely on anyone else's heels. We didn't see much wildlife on this trail, only some kudus in the distance, so if you'd like to see more wildlife, the 5 km route might be a better option. During our first visit, we saw zebras, kudus, wildebeests and giraffes on the 5 km route, which is flat but has one steep climb. It was nice and quiet during that visit too. There are two other trails to choose from as well - the 4,6 km route and the 3 km route. All the trails are well marked and maintained. You can also visit their restaurant or you can have your own picnic under one of the trees. We enjoyed both our visits and will definitely return.
Beautiful hiking/mountain biking trails, ,not to far from Pretoria , only open on weekends yet not overpopulated with hikers . A bit close to the mining facility but for the most part you have appealing natural surroundings. R50 pp for hikes ,splendid views and a wide variety of flora and some fauna like girrafe, black wildebeest and antilope. 2km/7km/10km trails. I look forward to go hiking there again. Once at the gate ,just phone the owner for access.
