This incredible museum is a piece of art itself, wrought out of an Ilka grain silo into a magnificent art space. The work on show is up to date, cutting edge contemporary African art that provides an experiential journey for mind and heart. The piece about slavery in this video I added was like a pouch to the gut! Definitely deserves repeated visits. The restaurant at the top was a friendly comfortable place with great views. Menu was interesting although a little sparse on the vegetarian options. Service was friendly but too casual and relaxed - not very attentive. All in all a well worth it day trip.
The five stars are on the basis of the building alone, an ingenious and jaw-dropping transformation of a massive grain silo into a modern art museum. I was heartbroken when I made my way to it thinking I was wrong about which days it is open, but they very kindly let me peek from the back of the gift shop into the heart of the sculpted space. Its soaring interior feels much like the inside of a Gothic church. Big wow factor. Next time I’ll get the day right and see the art, but I truly love this building.
A stunning venue that must be preserved. The architecture is artfully executed from the ceiling to the tunnels. My partner have visited twice in 12 months to see new and older exhibitions and were surprised at every turn. The exhibitions are carefully selected and executed in the most thought-provoking display of protest, power, and passion.
Spectacular Building, what a gem Cape Town has in this museum. I highly recommend a visit regardless of the exhibits. As instructed,’start from the top and make your way down. Take in all the views and sight lines. Recommend and would return.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Loved visiting the gallery! Amazing architectural work turning a silo into a modern art space which is alone already deserves a lot of attention. Most of the exhibitions were captivating and we enjoyed our visit all in all.
I love the art and visuals in this museum. Its so well curated and great. Make sure to have your headsets so you can scan the QR code and have the audio guide throughout the whole museum. On every Wednesday or Thursday don't clearly remember, there is a free day for all Africans to enter for free, make sure to carry your passport or identity card. On the roof top is a cafeterias with nice coffee, bites and there is internet around the whole museum. If you need a contemporary museum in Cape Town, this is it.
A beautifully constructed place, I got a free entry because it was my birth month. There are so many powerful art pieces. It is advisable to start from the base level and walk your way up to the top. Shooting down Babylon floor is very spiritual and creepy so if you are scared I’ll advice to not go in there. Restaurant on the top level, didn’t get to go there though. There are also loads of picture spots. I’ll advise to take pictures on the stairs too.
Fascinated. Amazing design of the building which offers almost enough reason to visit. Looks like the inside of an old Bond villain set. Took lots of pics. Modern Art mostly confused me. Though, on a smaller scale, it offers an equivalent to the Tate Modern in London we visited earlier this year. Some fascinating displays. Interesting to see how different artists express the passion, pain, emotion and their craft in so many varied ways. The staff were helpful and engaging which made the visit better. The gent selling the tickets showed interest in us and the Duty Manager engaged in conversation resulting in us staying a little longer. We will be back.
The building it self is beautiful. The art.... wel.... it's interesting... but be sure to ask what you going to see on display. Some might not be appealing to everyone like me. Some art at the time I was there was great and some was disturbing. Just ask what to expect before you enter.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Zeitz Museum is the first place I fell in love with art. Why? It is because there is a guide, along with an authored explanation of the exhibition that is on display. I found it quite interesting, useful and beneficial. They have a lift, stairway coffee shop, gift shop, you name it. The view from the coffee shop is fantastic. I would recommend Zeitz over any other Museum or art Gallery any day.
