This was a lot of fun for the family. The kids loved the fact that they get to ride in a "real" train. While riding, there is someone on the intercom at various points to give what pretty much amounts to a history lesson on the Black Hills and they'll point out notable sights along the way. One way is probably sufficient, but it may not be possible if you can't have someone meet you on the other end with a vehicle. Otherwise do the round trip.

Scenic ride on an 1880 style train, several cars restored to historic standards. Buy your tickets on-line for easy reliable seat selection. You can book reserve for either departure town, Hill City or Keystone. Padded seats are comfortable. We were able to reserve tickets day of travel. Friendly and courteous staff, informative guides.

We rode Hill City to Keystone and back. The ride was very enjoyable and informative. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would recommend! For a different view, choose seats on the other side of the train for your return ride.

Learned lots about South Dakota, had fun with family. Train was pack full. Tickets were a little confusing to read, which caused everyone to panic to find the right seat. Learned some Morse code. Will ride again if the opportunity is there. Beautiful scenery, and great employees. They kept us entertained when we had an unscheduled stop
