This was a lot of fun for the family. The kids loved the fact that they get to ride in a "real" train. While riding, there is someone on the intercom at various points to give what pretty much amounts to a history lesson on the Black Hills and they'll point out notable sights along the way. One way is probably sufficient, but it may not be possible if you can't have someone meet you on the other end with a vehicle. Otherwise do the round trip.

Very enjoyable experience. The train is covered and enclosed, relying on windows for ventilation. The seats are padded. Totally authentic. They even sold modest refreshments as the train chugged down the track. Scenic, informative, and relaxing; my 84 year old in-laws liked it. Little kids could get bored after awhile. Recommended.

Just a great time with my wife and granddaughter. Watching and listening to a 4 year old ooh and aah as we traveled to Hill city. She loved the sounds and smell of the locomotive. Sat looking out the window at the passing scenery and squealed in delight as we spotted some wild turkeys and a couple of deer.

Top notch staff, very interesting railroad history. The largest working miniature railroad I've ever seen. A sure popular hit for adults and kids alike. A go to destination for sure.

Great little experience. Yummy popcorn and very nice people. This last time I was planning a train ride with my family, I was pregnant but had some complications and had to cancel last minute. They refunded no questions asked and was concerned for my well-being and hoped all well. I highly recommend this ride. So pretty to see and perfect for something to do as a couple. Can't wait to go again.
