UPDATE: After posting this review, management reached out to me for feedback. Chara seemed responsive to my concerns and gave actual helpful responses. It seems like they are putting in more of an effort recently to have a good management team. I really cant say anything more than the other 1 star reviews have. The apartment itslelf and amenities are decent for the price, but the management and everything to do with them is just awful. Do not live here.
Moved here a week ago, bathroom cupboards are damaged, the floor was dirty, bathroom door doesn't close and lock properly. Informed to the leasing office, they asked me to create a maintenance request and it's already been 4 to 5 days. No one responded and when I reached out to the leasing office they were asking me to wait for the work order and when I asked for the ETA or escalate the work order, they denied it. Wasn't expecting to have this kinda experience as a new place. Overall the place is good but their service is really bad
I lived at 44 North this part year, and overall, it was not a positive experience. I noticed an immediate change when management switched over, including fewer events for residents, fewer friendly employees, and a general lack of care for residents. For example, management refused to fix a broken door off the lobby that led to the apartments and parking garage, meaning that during business hours, anyone from the public had access to apartments and the garage. Additionally, the internet would go out constantly a pretty big issue when practically all residents are students, and little effort was made to explain to residents the cause for the constant outages. I found that the leasing office was often not open during specified business hours literally on a sign on the front door, including the day I moved out during move out weekend. Upon moving out, I was charged for cleaning and repair costs when I don’t believe I should have been. Also, I noticed that much more effort was out into getting people to sign new leases than giving current residents a positive living experience. The apartments themselves are pretty nice, although the bedrooms are a bit small and the rent too high in my opinion, but don’t let that sway you into living here- the management ruins it.
44 north honestly has the worst staff and management i've ever seen and wish i could give a 0/5. at first communication between the staff and i was great, but down the road they were very hard to get an email back from or even a phone call and to deal with. first, when you call their office it's very hard to reach them. they never pick up and you have to literally spam call them to answer your call. sometimes they don't even pick up. i've visited the leasing office before moving in 3 times and all 3 times the front ladies were very rude, disinterested, yawning, lazy and when telling me information it sounded like they didn't know what they were even talking about. when i had finally moved in i also had more issues with the apartment and went to talk to the ladies in the leasing office and she was VERY ill-mannered. she sighed, didn't make much eye contact and looked disinterested in talking to me when telling her the issues. second, the communication isn't very clear or there isn't any communication at all. i emailed the general manager Chara and the other manager Brianna asking questions about what needed to be done in order for me to move in and such, but they never emailed me back. i had to hear from the girl i was subleasing from because she spam called them demanding for answers. another issue is maintenance is also rude. when asking to install a bunk bed and desk in our room they did so with the bed, but when bringing up the desk and chair they just handed it to us instead of bringing it to the room and placing it down. my roommate and i had to carry it ourselves. then i had asked them if they could also bring a dresser for me to place my clothes into and he told me, "no. not today." and scrambled off. furthermore, when i was in the process of figuring things out with the apartment it was very hard to get a response back from the managers so me and the girl i was subleasing for called multiple times until they picked up and asked why it was taking so long to hear a response and they would claim that she's in "meetings". a week or two later we called and asked again and they said she had covid. it was absolutely unbelievable! when i moved in i had problems connecting to the wifi as well. i wrote through the resident portal and also walked to the leasing office and told them the problem. they told me that i'd have to be put on a "waitlist" because other people were having and issue with it as well and that it would be fixed in a couple of days. 4-5 days passed and it still wasn't fixed. my roommate also informed me that when she was going to park her car someone else was parked in her parking spot so she went to the leasing office to inform them about the problem and they told her, "we can't do anything about it. you can park your car in another parking spot." she obviously got upset and told them she wasn't going to because that could be someone else's parking spot and she wouldn't do the same. overall, the management now is very rude, never available, hard to communicate with, and very lazy. i will not be renewing my lease next year unless there will be new management. do not move into this apartment building.
Used to really like living here under the old management, and I lived there for a year and a half under that management. There was a definite change in the quality when the new management took over. I spent the last half of a year with them. Some of the more notable changes included that common areas seemed to be cleaned less often, the quality of the once-beloved resident events lessened, and we no longer received reasonable advance notice if any at all of management entering units which technically violates Minn. Stat. Ann. 504B.211. I also had my bike stolen from the supposedly surveillance-camera-monitored storage room, and I never got any response or actual help from management when I shared the filed police report with them via email, despite being told by one of the workers in the front office that they would try to check camera footage after speaking directly to them about the incident. I have also had separate instances where I reached out to them via email and never got a response. On another note, if you get stuck in building one on the side that is next to the UMN landscaping place you will hear the beeping of the trucks backing up in there at all hours of the day and night. I know not much can really be done about that one, but it’s still a major drawback. Unless 44North makes some changes and starts actually listening to their residents, I suggest that when looking for places to live near campus you consider other options since there are plenty of places nearby with a similar price point that seem to offer more to their residents.
Update: Don’t try to be nice here. If you have the time to reply my review here, why don’t have the time to reply to all my emails??? WHAT A JOKE you asked me to talk about my concerns via emails or phone calls. I sent tons of emails and came in person thousand of times since August, but do you care? Have you replied to even one of my emails? WORST management team ever. I don’t even know what they are paid for. Paid for doing nothing? They always have thousands of excuses to pack you off the office.
44N used to be amazing before it was sold... now, not so much. I had a massive issue with a big payment that was lost, and it took two months for this issue to be resolved. During this time, the manager was not responding to my emails and wasn't fixing the issue. I had to reach out to her boss who fixed the issue for me. Then, I didn't have access to my resident portal for 2 months. During this time, I had no idea if my rent was going through luckily, it was. I once again had to email the manager's boss. If you have any issues that need to be addressed, good luck. The manager is super unhelpful and you're rarely able to meet with her because she's always in "meetings" or gone. In addition to this, the building is constantly dirty and smells like garbage. Cleaning supplies in the gym take forever to be re-stocked. The rent is expensive which was fine before, but due to the state of the building, it no longer feels reasonable for what you get. They entered my friend's apartment without permission then denied that they did, schedule inspections the day of which is technically illegal, and maintenance takes a long time. Don't live here!
I signed a lease here under old management and for my six months under them it was great. The old maintenance person was amazing and went over the top to be helpful. The building was always clean and management was very responsive. In the six months since the takeover everything has changed. I've submitted several maintenance requests and never seen maintenance people. On at least one occasion they marked a request as completed without fixing the issue. The leasing office has had unscheduled closures several times due to "staffing issues" aka, everyone who worked there quit because of the new management. Just in the past two weeks, the internet and elevator have each been down for a full day. You can actually currently walk into the residential areas when the office is open because the lock on one of the doors has been broken since November and they haven't bothered to fix it so they just prop it open. Printing used to be free if you had paper; now it is paid. Currently thanking my lucky stars I didn't resign here for next year. For the record, the current owners also own Stadium Village Flats and the Venue; the old owners currently own Station on Washington and Pavilion on Berry.
I would like to give 0 point, but unfortunately there is no such option. I currently live in building3 here. In the past few days, the smoke alarms in the whole building are constantly alarming because of expired or low battery. I have to turn off the alarm in my room once a day. Meanwhile, it's summer, but the air conditioner in our room has never been fixed. I have emailed office to repaired it at least THREE times, but not once the workers have repaired it seriously. They just did some innocuous work and left, causing me to now live in an environment without air conditioning, and I'm dying in this apartment because of overheating. So what I'm trying to say is, don't rent this apartment, there must be better options around, trust me.
**View the updates before you make your decision to stay here! Great apartment and very friendly management team too! This probably the best management team I met in this twin cities apartment. Will definitely continue to stay here **Update!! The new management team was really bad, unprofessional, and lazy. I really loved their previous management because they always response to resident's concerns and questions very fast and efficient. But the new management? Don't expect them to reply your email, care about your concerns and they are not friendly at all. Don't give us an attitude because we paid the rent to live here, and at least you have to respect all of us as 44N residents. After they change the ownership, I assumed that we have to re-sign the lease or anything? But they did not have us to sign that, and just transferred our lease. After this change and all these bad experiences, I don't see myself staying here anymore. BTW, the maintenance team still nice.
