Absolutely hands down my favorite bike shop in the city. Incredibly fair prices, expert service for my brompton and customer service that went above and beyond. It's a true small family owned buisness. The owner grew up in hells kitchen and takes incredible pride in the shop. That alone is a disappearing phenomenon in nyc, and makes it a gem in hells kitchen. I came in to get my bike tuned up and cleaned on one of their busiest weekends - the weekend of the 5 boro bike tour. The owner brought in one of his mechanics, who is an expert on bromptons, on his day off to get the bike back to me in a reasonable time. My bike has not looked or ridden this good since the day I bought it. They have my buisness for as long as I'm riding.
I cannot be happier that I've purchased my bike at Al's Cycle Solutions! Travis was so helpful and walked me through what would be good for me. I came back to buy and he put together the bike folding bike for me perfectly and showed me a few times how to fold/unfold. This was a big decision for me so I needed someone like Travis to listen to me and talk to me so I really appreciate it! I haven't owned a bike for over 20 some years since I was in high school so this was very worried! The last time I got on a bike was 2 years ago during my Mexico trip, casually riding on the beach even so I couldn't find the right fit, small enough bike so I ended up renting a kid's bike lol. I was thinking about getting an E-scooter at first but consulting with Travis really made me understand what I needed which was this beautiful little folding bike! Thank you!
Good prices on bikes. Quick service. Took my bike in at 6pm on a Saturday Nov 7th with a flat tire, they fixed it then oiled the chain and sprockets and adjusted my brakes all for the price of a flat repair, all in under 20 minutes. You can not ask for more than that! The guy at the register could use a attitude adjustment, when someone thanks you, have the basic courtesy to acknowledge them i stead of ignoring them and picking up your phone to continue to look at whatever. Overall a great shop. I have been there multiple times.
Great shop! I just got a new bike there and it is really exactly aht I wanted! They are having a great sale right now so let's all support a good local shop! They were very helpful in informing me about the best bike for me. They did the setup of my bike of choice and sent me off to roam the city with my new bike!
I would not recommend this place. Unfortunately they returned my bike to me after far longer than the repairs should have taken. Additionally the bike was unsafe in the state in which I picked it up. They had reassembled the fork incorrectly which caused the handlebars to come off center from the wheels. I brought it back and they didn't attempt to fully correct the issue. I took it to another shop where the mechanic fixed the issue. When I came back to pick up the part they'd missed they refused a refund for the labor even though it left the bike unsafe. I hope they get it together and no one is hurt in the meantime.
a dishonest place I feel robbed of both my money and my time. They have charged me much more money for a cheap piece making me lose two days.
Service was dishonest so come in prepared. Came in requesting for a gear shift fix, Al and his wife Terry tries to sell me on a bike tune up which was not needed, and hands me a $75 receipt without explanation. Young man with glasses and the mechanic is honest, which I ended up leaving the store paying $15 for what was requested - the gear shift . So, lucky if you get to work with them. Two stars for the solid gear shift fix, the bike now rides well. However, I am taken aback at the initial dishonest sell of service. I hope my experience with Al and Terry is an outlier from many. Al and Terry, if you are reading this, I only wish you well and hope this review can be an overall learning lesson to recheck your business strategy. As far as I am concerned, you have lost one potential life long customer as I will not be returning.
Awesome service on my Dahon folder today. Brought my bike in at 12:45 and was out the door and on my way home with new brakes, a freshly lubed chain, a tightened center hinge, and a new bell...which they quickly installed. Price was great, service was fast, and I couldn't be happier. I feel completely safe on my bike again! I'll be back.
Came in shopping for a bike to potentially post back to Australia. Al and his wife were very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. They gave me a competitive price straight up because as I explained I was shopping around. Al definitely knows his bikes, so while I was there got fitted and bought some accessories. I went to three shops in the area while staying in time square and this would be my pick. Had a good range of bikes on hand in the shop, nice people, good service, check them out.
Al's is a great bike shop in Hell's Kitchen - affordable, reliable and fast service. The staff is helpful in making repair and upgrade decisions and even looks for ways to keep costs down. I've had all my repairs done here and bought locks, bells and other accessories - all under the prices you'd find at other bike shops like Gotham, etc.
