Went here for lunch and ordered the mad hatter special for 3 and some kids meals. It was a bit pricey for what you get, however, food was decent and the kids liked their grilled cheese and banana cake slices. Scones were good. I thought the sandwiches were the highlight with the smoked salmon, ham and cheese, and curried chicken. Tea was quite tasty, especially the Earl Grey Extra Fancy. The Alice in Wonderland theme was nice but probably requires a bit of a refresh and new paint. Overall, it was a positive experience.
I’ve been on a scone hunt and Alice’s has had the best so far! I would rate their other food as average though. I came here for the first time to do afternoon tea extensive tea selection! and have returned many times just to get scones for takeout. Their wait staff is not very good; we were there for THREE hours for afternoon tea service, not intentionally but because the waiter didn’t bother to check in on us for the last 90min. However, the hostess and owners were wonderful and made up for the experience!
Sweet little spot for high tea! We enjoyed their lovely themed indoors. I enjoyed the nibbler with the berry scone, chicken sandwich, cookies, and St. Mark’s tea. The teacups and kettles were so cute- the plates matched. We reserved our seats ahead of time online for two just in case. It became pretty busy, even just after they opened. Bathroom requires a code!
Super crowded the week between Christmas and New Years but the staff was great. Chloe, our waitress, managed to be attentive and friendly despite having way too many tables to cover. She was also very knowledgeable about the menu and how to accommodate multiple food allergies and diet choices. Pretty impressive! Food was fine- tea was warm and cozy- everything is a little overpriced, but you’re paying for the experience most of all.
A fun place to have a tea party or to meet with friends or family for a cuppa. The sandwiches were delicious as were the cookies etc. There’s a huge variety of tea to choose from. Something for about every taste. Pricing was high but you are paying extra for a bit of experience. Service was a bit slow when we were there. 10 minutes before we were greeted at the door. Had to ask for the ticket because after delivery of the tea we didn’t see our server again. Overall it’s a good experience if you’re not in a hurry.
I have been wanting to come here for YEARS and on this city trip I made it happen usually I can’t get a reservation. I was so disappointed in the entire experience. I have been to tea all over the country and usually it’s such a fun and amazing experience… unfortunately that is not what I experienced here. From the moment we walked in it wasn’t great. They weren’t busy at all but there seemed to be confusion over where to seat us. Then we sat there for probably 15 minutes before the waiter came over. We got the tea for 2, but the way they do it really makes no sense. We would have saved $50 if we would have just gotten 3 separate teas. We only received 3 different sandwiches and 4 scones the only difference would have been 3 scones. Everything was bland and kind of tasted dried out. Both the teas we got were bitter. The restaurant itself could use some updating. It felt dingy and it has seen better days. And unfortunately our service wasn’t good at all. I NEVER leave one star reviews, but this just wasn’t good in so many ways.
I wish I took pictures but I was having too much fun. It’s pricey but it’s honestly worth it since it’s a good amount of food for 2 people. The tea selection is LARGE but it has something for everyone. I bought a tea cup and saucer for $8! And 2oz teas for $28. The tables are a nice size and you have space. Usually places in the city try to cram as many people and it ruins experience but it’s so spacious!! I would 100% come back and plan on coming back with my boyfriend this time. Someone said the decor is plain but I love the vibe and the fairy theme. The cups and the pot! Honestly it’s like grandma cottage vibes in a good way. Vegetarian options: They have vegan scones!
This place looks prettier in the pics but still a nice tea shop. Their prices are up there but I like how the menu has bundles, making it easier to order by party size. It's a better deal to get the afternoon tea if there are more people. The carousel does come packed with goodies, it is a lot of sweets with the scones and cookies. Also the scones are huge!! They had a great selection of teas, but I am also not a big tea buff. My friend who is was impressed with the selection. One thing to note, we came about an hour before closing and we're not able to get a second round of tea even though we ordered the unlimited. We should have asked but it would have also been nice to know that they stop serving tea around 30 mins before closing.
Now I know why people hate scones. These are dry the dough is overworked, and the crumb structure is too tight. They require the whipped cream and jam. The tea was good, the veggie sandwich needed salt or a sharper cheese and would have been better on sour dough. The pumpkin pancakes were lacking spice and flavor. The french fries were fantastic. Service was better than average for the current times. Good menu lay out. Vegetarian options: Veggie sandwich
Really excellent afternoon tea!!! We did the 2 hour unlimited Jabberwocky tea service for $72pp. You start out with a pot of tea, three warm scones with butter, preserves, and clotted cream. You get 2 varieties of finger sandwiches, which are cut into thirds, and the dessert plate. Servings are generous and filling. Staff is attentive, kind, and efficient and work as a team to help all of the tables. Our server was Bailey and she was excellent! Try to get a reservation, but if you cannot get a booking, show up early, like when they open at 11am and you may have luck as we did. Also, remember there is a second location not far from the original on E. 64th. For scones, we tried the chocolate chip butterscotch my favorite, the ham and cheese, which was like a savory biscuit, the mango raspberry Mom's fave, and the pumpkin with caramel glaze very pretty, tasted like soft gingerbread cookies. For tea my mom ordered the Black Fruits, but she did not like it and they kindly switched her out with the Chocolate Chai, which she absolutely loved. I had the 44th FLOTUS, and like Mrs. Obama, does not disappoint. I found it to be a very thoughtful and flavorful blend worthy of her name! For sandwiches, we tried the curry chicken yum, ham and gruyere yum, egg salad wow, the blt nom and the classic salmon yum. All good. Egg salad was my favorite. Curry chicken was my Mom's favorite. Needless to say, we had no room for dessert which included 3 macarons chocolate, vanilla bean, and strawberry, chocolate mousse with whipped cream, a chocolate chip cookie, oatmeal raisin? and their famous mocha cake. We had a lovely time, food was delicious, superior service, we both highly recommend and look forward to returning!
