AMC Empire 25

Story

The Empire Theatre is a former Broadway theatre located on 42nd Street in Manhattan, New York City.HistoryOriginally opened as the Eltinge 42nd Street Theatre, in 1912, it was designed by noted theatre architect Thomas W. Lamb, and named for Julian Eltinge. Its first production was Bayard Veiller's Within the Law, a hit that ran for more than a year.Originally specializing in light comedies, it suffered during the Great Depression and became first a burlesque theatre, then a movie theater in 1942. It was renamed the Empire Theatre in 1954, after the demolition of the previous theatre of the same name.In 1998, as part of the renewal of 42nd Street led by the New 42nd Street coalition and real estate developer Bruce Ratner, the entire theatre was lifted off its foundation and moved westward approximately 170ft. In its new location, the shell of the theatre auditorium was converted into a lobby and lounge for a 25-screen AMC Theatres multiplex, the AMC Empire 25, with escalators leading to the newly built auditoriums passing through the former proscenium arch of the stage. The theater opened in April 2000.

A bigger NY movie theatre near the busy Times Square with kind staff and comfortable seats. They have 25 screens with a good number of restaurants nearby and are conveniently located between two subway stations. At first glance, this AMC is pretty and huge. The outside lights shine through the windows and you see the busy crowds outside. However, the theatre was not crowded, very clean and worth the cinema experience. There are self-service ticket kiosks at the entrance/main lobby. There is usually a staff member available to monitor and provide assistance. The machines take credit cards tourist-friendly or you can order your ticket on the website. The kiosk interface was user-friendly and easy to navigate. Great experience and vibe; we had a great time enjoying the movie, Everything Everywhere All At Once. Do note, give yourself some time as there are various floors and limited narrow escalators to get to your screening.
Honestly hadn’t come here since before the pandemic. Decided to take my kids and I remember why I come here. It’s strikingly pretty, enormous, and the city views are beautiful from here. I’ve been coming here all my life and it keeps getting better. I pre ordered tickets and picked them up at the kiosk. I pre ordered my popcorn and soda and picked that up at the concession stand. Refills during dinner are easier now since they have re-fill stations right outside of the theaters, so you don’t have to go downstairs. The theater was not crowded, super clean, and everything I wanted from an NYC movie theater experience.
One of the largest AMC in NYC with 25 screens, making it the best place to watch small budget or foreign language movies. There are a good number of restaurants/pizza shops close by as well as subway stations. Some of the theatres while decent are a bit old and it takes about 4 minutes to get to the floors with screens only one narrow escalator. So you will need to get there a bit earlier than you typically would to catch a movie.
If it wasn't for the various escalators to get to the screens, I would have given it 5 Stars. Now for the experience of this AMC theater, the concession stand moved quickly and the IMAX screen was decent to enjoy the movie we went to see. So if you are in the Times Square area and you are choosing to catch a flick then visit the Empire 25 along with the other choices within the same building.
Went to see Avatar The way of Water here, first time visiting the cinema, and I'm pleasantly surprised. The lobby looked a little run down, but the theater itself was fantastic. The Dolby 3D room that I saw the movie in Theater 8 was gigantic - the largest movie theater I've ever been in, but visibility from halfway back was still great. Ample space, excellent sound, good projection, great 3D. I'll definitely go again.
This was an okay experience. The film I went to see was good. However, the food kiosk was only open on one floor and the cinema seemed to be quite dated and in need of a revamp. They also gave me salted popcorn when I’d asked for sweet, which was pretty disappointing.
One of my all time fav movie theater, very convenient. Love the decor, stuff are most of the time great. Altho this days very hard to find any stuff. Most of the time restrooms are pretty clean.
Saw "Avatar - The Way of Water" IMAX in 3D. Had an issue with my knee and asked for help. The ticket-taker, Jaclyn, was fantastic. She brought me to an elevator and my chair. Yeah! To AMC, great movie, great hospitality - thank you for a wonderful experience.
Nice theater. Not much has changed though. The only upgrades have been the ticketing machines and the drink area. It could be so much better though. The seating in the iMax theater is nice and the sound is full. Great for a date night.
I had a short evening to myself in NYC during a business trip. It was too late to grab tickets for a Broadway show or standup act so I opted to go to the movies by myself for the first time ever. There were a multitude of kiosks so you can grab your ticket quickly and they offer seat selection. From there, you go to the escalators and find yourself right at the concessions. I really enjoyed the fact that they offered gourmet caramel popcorn! I saw an IMAX show and it was worth it. The seats were extra comfy and the audio was amazing!
