If I had an expense account, this would be the place to waste money at. However, without one, the prices seem extremely high for the mediocre fish and cocktails. The service was decent, probably because one of my dining companions knew the manager. Our group of five shared some appetizers and each ordered grilled fish as the main course. Unfortunately, the fish lacked flavor and needed more seasoning. This is surprising, as I usually prefer a more natural taste. As a fish enthusiast, I could easily buy black cod from Whole Foods and air fry it for a fraction of the price, and enjoy it more.
A great place for your traditional Greek influenced dishes. Service A, Food A and atmosphere and A. Great for large parties.
Horrible. We came to Ammos for dinner and walked out after trying our dishes. We should have taken the hint when another table nearby did the same. As the pictures show, everything seems to come with the same soggy, canned vegetables. The food was tasteless. No amount of lemon squeeze or salt could save the red snapper that was also so overcooked it had the texture of chicken. The orzo tasted like chlorine water and the Brussels sprouts were boiled and soaked in water and, again, the same canned vegetables. The manager offered us another dish to “find something we like” but considering the three dishes we ordered were all the same, I doubt that would have happened. I have had better meals on airplanes and in college cafeterias. And to top it all off, this trough slop was not cheap and we got nothing off the bill.
A friend of ours hosted a private event at the restaurant so I didn't have the regular restaurant experience. But I can say the venue provides a classy, intimate setting for gathering of this kind. From what I could see, it's a bit on the smaller side so a party size of about 30-40 people would be ideal.Food: 4/5
A coworker and I decided to come here and I gave her rave reviews of a dinner I had here pre pandemic days! We ordered spanakopitagood calamariperfectly cooked lamb burgers not seasoned at all and the walnut caketoo sweet We had to run so ordered our dessert to go, boy was that a mistake. They didn’t even package the ice cream for us which it was supposed to come with. We were highly disappointed- and the walnut cake was so sweet! I’m not sure I will visit here for lunch again, but may come back for dinner.
This food was absolutely disgusting. I felt like I was eating food worse than airplane food. It was slimy, the vegetables came out of a can, the food was wet and tasteless. No one as my table was able to down more than 2 forkfuls of their meals max. We left and they still charged us full charge even though we ate hardly a thing. Absolutely awful experience
The restaurant is easy to find. Just get off at 42nd Street on the 4, 5, or 6 subway lines then, while on 42nd Street, walk one block west to Vanderbilt Avenue, and three blocks, in the direction of 45th Street, to the restaurant. I ordered the lamb shank here, which I order often when I see it on menus. It was expensive, $42, but was delicious, and it came with a tasty mix of orzo with small pieces of onion with a light tasting tomato sauce see my photo.
Beautiful restaurant in a great location in mid town . The food however is disappointing. With low price for lunch you may pay with quality. The burgers were served nicely but were dry. The Rizi vegetarian was tasteless and the fish was so so. There are much better Greek restaurants in mid town.
The waiters and overall staff are great people, and the walnut cake is to die for. Best dessert I ever had, usually I’m not a big fan of any nut type cake but this dessert was the best, highly recommend trying. Reason I’m giving 3 stars wanted to give 3 and half is that the strawberry mojito is way to strong and not that good compared to other places that make mojitos which are refreshing. The chicken was way too dry for my taste. Overall the atmosphere and the staff is great, I’ll give a second shot to try other entrees in future.
Decent food and drinks but way too many people which made it increasingly difficult to enjoy a conversation with my colleagues. The table they sat us at was by the door and at least 25 people hit my chair as they went thru the door to go to the outside tables. With all the places to go to in Manhattan I probably wouldn’t go back.
