Had to wait 20 minutes to place a to go order. Waitress very unhelpful and unpleasant for my first vist. Have to wait another 20 for the food. Just hoping it's worth the wait.

Soul Food Sunday was a hit. Mac and cheese and salad bar needs some help but all else was a hit. Great pink lemonade. Great service. Restaurant atmosphere could use a makeover.

As you drive up IN-2 toward down town South Bend, you pass two places; South Bend Speedway, where a lot of racing drivers, including Ryan Newman, cut their teeth. Directly in front of the races at, is a small bar and grill which you can not miss seeing from the highway.
I had never eaten at Angles before, but, had heard it was a nice place with good food. After the family finished a few chores in the area, I suggested Angles to the XYL for dinner. At first she was a little unsure but agreed.
When you walk in, the bar entrance is to the left and is totally separated from the restaurant. For a Friday night, AngLes was not busy and we were seated immediately. We were seated in a booth along the wall which devides the bar from the restaurant. Each booth has a 19" which was tuned into ABC news at the time of our visit. In a condiment basket were silverware sets neatly wrapped in paper napkins and sealed closed with a paper seal. The tables were clean and the booth seats were not torn or repaired with duct tape. Our server was very attentive and extremely polite.
When you look at the menu, the first thing you notice is the diversity of food offered. As an appetizer, we ordered the nacho plate. My wife ordered the bourbon chicken, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and my son ordered the Mac n' cheese from the kids menu. We received the nacho plate first followed by my son's Mac n' cheese meal. For an appetizer, a full order nacho plate quite suffices and could be a full meal alone. The nachos were so good, I started to wonder if I could eat a sandwich as well as the nachos.
Usually, when a menu item describes an item, the description is a little polished and exaggerated with statements like; "piled high", but in this case, AngLes held true to the description and did not disappoint. The pulled pork was served on a Kaiser roll and was at least 2" high and was already the circumference of the bun. The sandwich came with fries and complimented the sandwich nicely.
My wife's bourbon chicken was served with sweet potato fries and sour cream to dip the fries in. The dinner also had extra glaze just in case the generous amount on the chicken was not enough.
Soft drinks are served in pint glasses and are refilled generously.
The only downside and the reason I rated AngLes 4 stars instead of 5; the silverware needed a little more cleaning as there was a light film which we had to wipe off with napkins.
All in all, AngLes was a very welcome surprise of service, taste and atmosphere and I highly recommend it. Just ensure you have plenty of time to order and eat as the meals do take time to be served.
