This non-profit club offers an extensive schedule of weekday and weekend activities throughout the NYC metro area. Canoe/kayak trips are offered throughout the paddling season. For those needing instruction, several beginner workshops are offered. The club has its own fleet of rental boats, so you need not buy your own canoe or kayak to join them. Rock-climbing trips are offered each week, mostly in the Shawangunks, and hiking trips are scheduled all over the NY and NJ area. Backcountry ski trips are held in the Catskills and Adirondacks. The club has its own overnight facilities on Fire Island for sailing, and at the Delaware Water Gap and Harriman State Park for hiking, paddling and XC skiing.

I love this club! They have several hiking trips to choose from each weekend, all within striking distance of NYC. If you're so inclined, they have canoe & kayak trips, rock climbing trips, backcountry ski trips and bicycle trips. You can even play softball without leaving Manhattan. If you're not a sofa spud, this is a great way to meet people.
