This place was ideal: well marked trails, a number of running brooks, varied-difficulty trails, and scenic views.
I took the blue trail all the way (one mile) to the dam, craning my neck for bears the whole time. Didn't see any. Did work up a sweat, but on the whole, the blue trail was moderate.
I took that to the white trail, which climbs for about five minutes to a scenic viewpoint. I saw the whole reservoir and surrounding forest. There's also the red trail, which goes around the whole reservoir.
Saw lots of birds, including some large predatory birds, as well as one doe inside the gated area. A very peaceful hike.

Awesome place, very serene but then it all becomes as silent as when a black out occurs. It’s silence brings a thought of what could be lurking around. With no one else around that very thought sinks in and it makes you feel lost. You will in deed become stranded, but be ware... don’t wonder around for too long, bears are frequent in abundance in this forested area. There have been several recorded deaths of bears in this place. God knows how many haven’t been reported and recorded. Be safe out there!

There are 4 different trails and all are well blazed in different colors. The trails are not very difficult so it is a good place for families. I’ve walked the trails many times and I find it relaxing. There is plenty of parking in the unpaved parking lot at the trailhead

Best place so far to hike in eastern nj.
You need hiking boots. Snickers ok but not safe. Trails available o printed map on the parking lot...

This is a great place for a hike. The white trail has some beautiful views, water falls on the green trail, a peninsula with a panoramic view of the old Butler Reservoir on the red trail, and a cool little pond on the purple. I bring a lunch and eat on the peninsula.
