I booked this hotel without looking at the reviews first. I am glad I did. I would have missed out on one of the gem hotels in Waikiki. In reality, it was a wonderful place to stay. Had a great time. The room was clean both in appearance and scent.I had a beautiful 17th floor view overlooking the zoo, park and Diamond Head. I also had a nice partial ocean view. I did ask for a king bed,but got two doubles lots of newly weds, I was okay with giving it up for them. The food was good. Breakfast was free and plenty of it. Geri, at the front desk, as well as the rest of the staff were wonderful and very helpful. The place is secure. You can not get to the guest room floors without a key. They have beach chairs and towels for you to borrow for the day. Just an overall wonderful stay.
My wife and I will be staying here in early April 2015. I was very optimistic about this place after reading some good reviews and seeing it was a good location. I have booked our room a standard interior room - no ocean view; trying to save what $ we can to enjoy other things on our vacation and we're excited to soon make our first visit to Hawaii. HOWEVER, the first night of our FOURTEEN night stay is at a higher rate than I was lead to believe when initially booking. We're paying $56 more the first night of our stay which apparently is the last day before the rates magically plummet. I was told by an Aston hotel representative over the phone that the rate could not be adjusted. I think that valuing loyal customers who book FOURTEEN nights should be a priority. I have already booked our flights and rental car even been approved for the dates off from work so moving our vacation one day later to accommodate their strict rates is not going to happen. I was hoping that the Aston Waikiki Beachside Hotel would work with us in adjusting the rate for the first night to match the other THIRTEEN nights we'll be staying. If they're willing to correct this matter and give us a fair deal, then I may be willing to adjust my review to a more favorable rating. Aloha for now!
The biggest issue was that a staff member called me a liar, and it took me asking for a way to contact their legal department for him to go in the back and confirm what I had told him. The staff seems to have an issue with integrity. 1. The maid service entered my room twice without knocking, so I had to leave the "privacy please" sign on my door the entire rest of my stay. 2. The lock to my room stopped working on a regular basisat least 4 times, the maintenance staff were polite, but the issue shouldn't have occurred more than once 3. Whenever I had an issue the front desk staff told me to "come back tomorrow" which obviously led to the incident of the staff member calling me a liar. I had the choice to stay here or find another hotel. I immediately chose another hotel, the location is nice but it isn't worth dealing with the issues i had every day.
My girlfriend and I liked this place. It isn't the fanciest place on the island but it's right across I mean throw a rock and hear a splash the street. We stayed in the one window room with no view but besides the old TV it was fine. The only part we did not like was the parking fee, 20 something a night. What it lacks in amenities it makes up in location. It's Hawaii! We spend most of the day/night outside. Anyway we're booked again in April but the nice room with the view and couldn't be more excited. See you soon paradise!
We had a terrible experience here. I never wanted to return to my hotel after spending time out in the city. A few of the low-lights of our experience: 1. We thought we had booked a different Aston- the Beach hotel, not the Beachside. These are completely different properties with different decor. The Beachside rooms are half the size. 2. The cleanliness is not up to standard. Dust everywhere, peeling wallpaper, the balcony drape was moldy and full of holes, the showerhead is moldy, the shower door is soap scum streaked, the bed was dusty and itchy. 3. The front lobby and front desk area is awkward. There are two other Aston hotels stacked next to each other and this is obviously the Grade C one. 4. There's a $22 per night valet only parking charge. You park in front of the Grade A hotel, turn over your car and then walk around the corner to the Grade C one. 5. There is NO FREE WIFI. Unheard of these days. It's $35. 6. The standard room is like a closet made in to a room. No windows, 1970's fridge and TV, dark and dingy. There are better options on Waikiki! Keep looking.
Not a fancy hotel. Basic small but clean rooms. Nice but basic bathroom. Attentive and helpful staff. The best part is getting a balcony room facing the beach. Awesome views, great location and fair room rates for being on the beach in Waikiki.
After readibg some of the reviews for this Hotel, we were a little concerned about our stay - we had nothing to worry about. The staff are fantastic, and yes the place is a little dated, but it is clean, has everything you need, helpful staff, and across the street from the beach. Will certainly stay here again and hope the renovations don't take away any of its charm.
The folks who work here were pleasant and helpful. The location you can't beat .Stayed on the tenth floor and the ocean veiw was awesome. I couldn't have picked a better hotel for my first trip to Hawaii . Unfortunately this hotel is being completely gutted and remodeled as of July 2016 into full floor single units and this will undoubtedly drive the price up to $800 a nite or more
The Elevator system at the hotel is a nightmare. Some parts of the day taking 20 mins to get picked up from your floor to just head downstairs. The staff working were friendly though. TV didn't work the first night. So it was swapped with another that didn't work either. I'd stay again just on a lower level so that stairs could be an option.
Well, I have to agree with some comments that the building is old and dated. However, the rooms were clean, the bed linen was clean, the bed was comfortable, the staff were pleasant and helpful and the location meant everything was easily accessible. Over all, I would have to rate this as ok.
