Awash is an amazing place to savor the fine cuisine of Ethiopia. They have a very varied menu to be able to pick from. The service was magnificent. This husband wife team earns itself a place in the "must do" dining places in the Miami area. I can't say enough about the service offered to us and as observed towards other guests. We had the vegetarian combo for two. Very reasonably priced. We accompanied with Ethiopian beers as suggested by our host, the owner. The wife, came out to greet us while dining and to ensure we were enjoying our stay, she also happens to be the chef!

I'm not really sure why this place has such high reviews. I was very excited to try this place as it came highly recommended from a friend. The service was very slow and the primary reason for a low rating...one server took our drink order..5 minutes later another came to take our drink order, not realizing the first had taken our order already, but just not brought our drinks. After finishing our beers, we asked for water. Had just gotten food when we asked, were finished by the time we got the water...and for whatever reason only 1 water was brought to the table for 2 people...When trying to pay, they had our credit cards for over 10 minutes before finally deciding to bring them back...was quite annoyed. I thought the food was actually good for the most part. The sambusa was very tasty, but unfortunately was served so hot that it burned my mouth really bad on the inside. I can still feel where it was burned almost 5 days later. The duck and chicken dishes however were very good. Well cooked and seasoned. On the other hand, they serve there dishes with this nasty spongy feeling bread that is supposed to be used more so as a wrap for the main meat dish...it was not good. I literally thought at first this spongy thing was a place mat... this place is not overly expensive for a dinner out, however for the price, the portions are very small and I left quite unsatisfied. The decor was quite nice and very authentic. If they would simply dim the lights, it would set a much better mood to the place. They had a band as well as well which was cool. They had almost an island feel to them but were playing throwback songs to the 60s and 70s...almost seemed this band was out of place. Overall this was just an OK experience...very unlikely to return or recommend.

My husband and I have mourned the fact that Miami has not had an Ethiopian restaurant for many years. We love the Ethiopian cuisine and have been hoping that someone would be willing to share their delicious array of flavors with us. With that said, we were so thrilled when we read about Awash opening their doors in Miami! We were excited that once again, we had the option of eating these unique dishes. The restaurant is located in an unassuming strip mall, however; when you walk inside the restaurant, you actually forget that you are in Miami. The atmosphere transports you to Ethiopia, the decor is very authentic. As soon as we walked in, we were taken to our table. We went on a Saturday night and the place was packed. We ordered lentil samosas as an appetizer and they were hot, crispy and delicious, the only drawback was that they did not come with any sauce. For the main course, we ordered the sampler that brings a little bit of each item on the menu. My husband and I were completely satisfied with the quantity and quality of the food. The service was on the slow side, I think it had to do with the fact that the restaurant was packed. For dessert we ordered the chocolate cake but they had sold out so we ordered the caramel cheesecake which was delicious. We will certainly be back. The star missing is for long wait time.

Another restaurant in a very non-descript strip mall left us wondering what the food would be like. Well, don't wait to go! This place is terrific. If you like Ethiopian food, or if you've never tried it, you must try it here. The owners and wait staff are personal and make you feel like family. The food was perfectly done, with a nice choice of options and a very pleasant atmosphere. Go, check it out. You won't be disappointed.
