Best of Canaan

I've been renting from BOC every winter for almost a decade. It has been a pleasure to work with them. They have always helped me find a house that fits my needs and have been super responsive of any needs I might have. I have also sent friends to them and they have been very happy as well. I highly recommend them.

Great rental agency. They were prompt and courteous with all correspondence and went out of their way to make sure our stay in the area was a pleasant one.

The cabin set up was very nice and the beds were comfy. I have feedback about the realty company and the actual owners of the cabin. It is also very strange to have to drive your garbage bag to the restaurant down the road and dump it in their dumpster. 1) We came to ski and due to warm weather the snow was melted, we asked the realty company if they could move our date a few weeks so we could really enjoy what we set out to do. They were not willing to accommodate us. 2) If you plan on coming to this cabin for New Years and think you will turn on ESPN to watch the bowl games, think again, it is not part of the cable package. When we called Donna at the realty company she said the owners were not willing to accommodate us because it was too expensive. We had to go to lounges and bars to find a TV to watch our games and then we had to share TV's with other fans because other people wanted their games. VERY INCONVENIENT! 3) This is the worst of everything, when we first entered the cabin we immediately found mouse droppings on the kitchen counters. We also found mouse traps that had been laid all around the kitchen but there was no bait on the traps to entice the mice. We were also very surprised to find board games in the coffee table and got excited to play but we found bean bags that had been chewed by mice as well. I called Donna and she got short with me and said she would send someone out there, the only thing they did was move a mouse trap, still didn't bait the trap. My guests and I baited the traps with cheese and within 2 hours we trapped 2 mice. We were also in the living room watching TV while one of the mice got trapped which means they mice were comfortable coming in and out of the cabin. The next morning we got a fresh set of droppings again on the kitchen counter and they were behind the cutting boards. After we checked out of the cabin, I let Donna know what happened with the mice. She said "The last set of renters said they saw mice and we have never seen them before." This means that the realty company was aware of the pest problem but didn't do their due diligence to solve the problem. VERY UNSANITARY!!! They were not willing to offer us anything for our troubles or be truly apologetic. This could be a great cabin to stay in if the realty really put 100% effort on customer service. They gave us the impression they were about taking our money and nothing else. I will NEVER do business with Best of Canaan again!

After our second experience renting from Best of Canaan, our entire family got a bacterial skin infection from using the hot tub at the cabin we rented because the spa was insufficiently cleaned/chlorinated. The people at Best of Canaan claimed no responsibility and refused partial refund for our trouble. Buyer beware.
