Best experience in DC so far! We had a blast kayaking on our own terms and direction. We decided to circle all the way around Roosevelt Island — took just over an hour with breaks, easier than it seems! We encountered several exciting animals geese, a great blue heron, and a turtle. And we even docked ashore to take a short walk to the Roosevelt memorial on the island. Highly recommended inclusion for anyone visiting DC — for any length of time — even if you’ve never kayaked before.
Despite several other locations throughout the area, the Key Bridge Boathouse is the biggest. It's literally under Key Bridge in Georgetown. After kayaking here several times, here's my take: 1 Activities: They have expanded beyond single and double kayaks into paddle boarding, camps, etc. They also offer kayaks during Fourth of July, which I highly recommend doing at least once while in D.C. Recently, I took a kayak out for three hours to see the monuments. It was perfect! You can go north or south on the Potomac and can even dock at Roosevelt Island. 2 Service: It's pretty chill. They give you a life jacket and paddle and let you go out. They have outhouses, lockers, etc. If you love kayaking, this is your spot!
This is one of the best places to enjoy nature right close to home!! Boating at key bridge is special to my heart, I went on a first date here! Which turned into another date at the same place a year later turned into a proposal! Would highly recommend this activity for those looking to do this in a large group or solo activity.
Very well set up and stocked kayak and canoe rental. Book online early or on-site. They have lockers as well to protect your stuff while you enjoy the river worry free.
The online reservation service could not be easier and we made a booking same day for three of us. They have PLENTY of kayaks so we had no issues upon arrival. Definitely able to accommodate busy days and walk ins. Be sure to complete the waiver in your email to streamline your check in. There’s picnic tables when you walk in to sit, wait for your party, have a snack. You can bring backpacks, water, wear anything you want on the kayak. Plenty of space. I will say the young kids who work on the dock near the water were sub par in their customer service but I don’t really think it would Deter me from coming again. One gentleman snapped at my friend when she asked a question. I would say the most disorganized part is in instructions for when you get down on the dock. Being out on the water is amazing there’s a nice breeze and plenty to do. We saw snakes turtles and a deer during our trip and had a great time with a two hour paddle.
Great spot to start kayaking and paddleboarding! My friends rented kayaks here and my husband and I had our own paddleboards. We were charged a $10 dock fee for the both of us to use their dock.
Great experience renting two single kayaks with a friend here. The online reservation process was easy and straightforward, and checking in was fast. It was a superb experience from start to finish and a beautiful day to spend on the river. Loved seeing all of the birds and wildlife too!
Wonderful place to rent Kayaks, Canoes, double Kayaks, and even paddle boards. Process of check in was smooth and easy. There are multiple staff members available to help people in and out of the boats. Life vests and paddles included.
It seems to be tough for starters, but it really isn't, and anyone with basic strength can go ahead to enjoy the activity. There are two types of boats available: 1 seater/2 seater. 2 seater one needs to be in sync with other person. Would totally recommend it if haven't done it previously.
Beautiful environment. Equipment well intact. The only reason I don’t give 5 stars is because the staff turned a blind eye to me and my boyfriend as well as my mother and stepfather as we were docking. And if you’ve ever tried to get out of a kayak in the water by yourself, you would understand my frustration. All in all. Beautiful place and I highly recommend.
