Buck's Stove Palace is legendary. I needed a wood stove insert and went to the Palace. I found that stoves are Buck's passion. He has antique stoves like the model in Abe Lincoln's photo and high efficiency modern ones. He has items you won't find anywhere else. He had a beautifully ornamented Jotul surround that he stocked before it was discontinued by the manufacturer. He sent it home with us to try and we loved it! It lends a beautiful and period-appropriate aspect to our living room. I waffled on the stove a couple of times and Buck patiently answered my questions and let me work through the decision process with absolutely no pressure. Once we settled on a stove, we met with his installer Carson Oberholzer, who checked our fireplace for fit and patiently explained the install options and process. During installation, Carson came through with quality materials and workmanship and was a pleasure to work with. Can't think of any aspect of the purchase or installation that I would change. Highly recommended!
Going to Buck's feels like going back in time - in a good way. He's been in the business forever and knows it inside out. He's also happy to do a house visit and talk over the options. He may not always be timely but the result will be good and comes with a story. Installation is done by partner contractor which went smoothly in our case although it took a little back and forth to get the permit sorted out. Ultimately the outcome is what we were seeking at a better price than the other folks we spoke to offered.
I grew up near Buck's and have been doing business with him for about 30 years. I'm buying my third stove from him and retiring my beloved Phoenix. I look forward to the arrival of my Hearthstone Heritage.
Thanks so much for your great work and assistance in turning our living room into a log cabin. Special thanks to Buck for sending his employee out with his personal Tribute Rear Heat Shield, so we could have it inspected right away and start using it. It was also a great buying experience in the store and getting to know Buck. The Hearthstone Soapstone Tribute is a beauty alright and just perfect for us. Haven't had the heat on in 2 1/2 weeks, even had some low 30's temperatures overnight. We just build a fire in morning and evening for two hours and it makes everything toasty. Temperature only drops 3-4 degrees during the day and overnight.  The soapstone really radiates outs a nice comfortable heat. We have had so many comments on the wood stove..."unique...amazing...so beautiful...warm and inviting...like piece of custom furniture., etc." Best Regards, Todd and Joyce Taylor May God Bless You and Your Family
Buck is as kind, friendly and generous as he is knowledgable, and Buck is extremely knowledgeable! Buck and his employees will patiently answer any questions, no matter how silly the question may seem. The store itself is filled with plenty of amazing things to see; it's basically a museum of stoves. Anyone in the Portland Metro Area would greatly benefit from buying their stove at Buck's Stove Palace. It is a Portland gem, deeply and loving embedded in its the neighbored. I consider it a privilege having the chance to buy my wood stove from such an amazing business and from such wonderful people. It's crystal clear how their emphasis is on making you happy and not simply selling you tons of expensive stuff. They want to see you using the right stove! Buck's Stove Palace is the kind of business I'd love every other business to be like.
This is the place you want to go when you need a wood burning stove. Just go here first. Buck knows stoves. Make sure you have time to talk to Buck and others in detail about your needs and they will be very helpful. I had a great experience. My only challenge was installation. Buck doesn’t install but he will give you his thoughts. Great place!
Bucks is the best place to get the best stove, Hearthstone soapstone. Especially for small to medium size homes, never too hot, the heat just feels different and so right!
We did a lot of shopping around for a wood burning stove and a gas stove and we decided to go with Buck's Stove Palace. Buck was extremely helpful in helping us picking out what we wanted/needed and we could not be happier. Buck takes an interest in every one of his customers and follows up with a phone call to make sure they are happy with their purchase. He is extremely knowledgeable and answered all our questions. It's not a fancy showplace by any means, but he has a large variety to choose from; we received the latest gas stove from Buck that we could not find in other stores. AND we got a great price from him. I HIGHLY recommend this business if you're looking for a gas or wood stove!
Buck and his team are great. They were very focused and took their time getting us exactly what we wanted, and came back to our home several times to get it right. I think Buck works 25 hours a day. The Jotul stove is great and we look forward to many evenings with a nice fire.
Buck's is the best place to go for wood stoves in the whole Pacific NW! Buck and his crew offer great service, they delivered our stove and went way beyond our expectations helping us install it. They are very knowledgeable about stoves, installation and state and local building codes. Buck wrote the code for the State of Oregon EPA, which was later adopted by the State of Washington and then the federal government. We shopped around Portland, received various misinformation about what kind of stove we could put in our alcove. Buck showed us what we could legally do. Next time we'll just go to Buck's.
