California Flight School

California Flight School is professional, well organized and responsive to the needs of individual customers. The office and plane were immaculate. For an introductory flight, my instructor Uwe imparted a great deal of information with total clarity. He explained that he had already taken time to inspect the plane (a Cessna Skyhawk with Garmin avionics) before our flight. As soon as we approached the plane, he began to expose me to pre-flight checklists and inspection of the plane, which emphasized good habits and safety as a priority. He then allowed me to read the checklists and handle the controls for taxi, take off, ascent, cruise, 30 degree banked turns, adjusting trim, and descent. Landing is more complicated, but I did have the opportunity to feel Uwe handle the controls while we landed. He carefully talked me through each step of the flight. It was a very complete experience and gave me a picture of what it would be involved in learning to fly. Uwe followed about with an informative email about the time, cost, materials and budget involved in obtaining a pilots license, making plain all the details. I can't wait to get started. Even for those not interested in pursuing further training, the introductory flight was incredibly scenic (Santa Monica Mountains, Channel Islands) and a once in a lifetime experience.
