Rude and Xenophobic.
I discussed visiting this church with my wife. This Sunday, she wasn't available, so i told her I would take some photos for her to see. I saw on the church website that everyone was welcome, and that people attend from all ethnic backgrounds, so I wore my best Central Asian ethnic outfit.
I was walking on the sidewalk across the street from the church when two men with security tags crossed the street from the church and approached me. One of them blocked my path on the sidewalk. They were quite rude, and warned me to stay off the property [even though I had not entered the property or shown any signs that I was going to] and threatened to call the police.
One of the men was very hostile, kept trying to provoke me, and in my assessment, wanted to get an angry response so that he could do violence to me.
I was completely calm and polite throughout the entire interaction..
One of the men followed me for a ways, and I was afraid to go back to my car, so I had to walk a long ways until I was sure I was no longer being followed.
Even if they thought I was a security risk, they could have refrained from the threatening attitude and the rudeness.
I might add that when I filmed a mosque a while back, someone came out and was very friendly, and invited me in.
UPDATE [Monday]: I have seen the response. Thank you. However, I called the church office this morning at about 10:00 AM, and asked to speak to someone about this. The receptionist said that a pastor would be calling me back in ten minutes. 40 minutes later I called back and asked if they would still be returning my call. I was told that the pastor got held up, and it would be another ten minutes. It is now been 10 hours, and I have heard nothing.
Also to the respondent: If you interview the security people, I hope they weigh their words carefully. I had a body cam running the entire time.
UPDATE 2 [Tuesday]: Still no return phone call. I called the church again this morning. I was connected to the Safety Director. I said that I would like to come by and speak to a pastor. He reiterated that he did not want me on the property. I am now waiting to see if they return my call.
UPDATE 3 [Tuesday] It appears that the response from Calvary Worship Center that was posted last evening and was still here earlier this morning that told me I was welcome to return, has been deleted.
UPDATE 4Tuesday evening]: Finally got a call from a pastor. He was nasty and argumentative. Would not agree to meet with me at the church. The call dropped as we were speaking. No further contact.
UPDATE 5 [Wednesday]: I saw your response, Pastor Pittman. Nicely written. But I think you may have been misled as to who reached out to whom. I have repeatedly asked to come to the church and speak with a pastor, but have been repeatedly rebuffed. Would you like to sit down and talk with me? You have my number.
