Story

THE STORY It all began back in 1959 when Albert
Candelari, after a few successful days of hunting,
started perfecting his family’s sausage recipe in the back
of his Houston Liquor Store (Rex Liquor).
Michael May, Papa Albert’s grandson, grew up in his large Italian
family which always seemed to be gathered in the
kitchen cooking, tasting and mostly eating authentic
Italian dishes which had been passed down to either his
Great Grama Tina or his Grama Bea.
He had been bitten by the culinary bug at an early age and over
a lifetime has trained, studied and worked in the
restaurant industry.
In 1993, Michael and his sister Natalie launched the
Candelari Sausage Company, and the company quickly
became known for producing high quality gourmet
sausages. Then his dream came reality in 2003 when he
opened the first of currently, five Houston area
Candelari’s Pizzerias.
Candelari’s Pizzeria e Cucina is the product of his labor,
love and vision. On any given night, Michael might be
in the kitchen making sure that your meal meets his
exacting standards.
