We knew by the price of the hotel that this wasn't going to be a 4-Star experience, but to give it one star is generous. If you're ever forced to stay in this hotel, be sure to ask for another room besides room 319. 1. The hotel keys wouldn't work after we hauled all of our luggage three flights of stairs. The elevator was inoperable. I needed to go back downstairs to have this fixed, only to find that the "credit card" keys couldn't be used. Regular keys had to be used. 2. It was very clear that this room was an afterthought. The elevator shaft is actually part of the room. I was quite impressed at how well they were able to create a room with an elevator shaft in it. 3. 55 gallon trash cans were holding the emergency exit doors open for all floors. The smell, as you can imagine, was not pleasant in the stairwells. 3. The bed sheets did not look remotely clean. It was as if someone just made the bed without changing the sheets for new customers... for the last month. There were no towels. We helped ourselves to the towels at the end of the hallway. The towels were more dingy than the sheets. 4. One particular light fixture was broken. Instead of fixing it, they tied the LIVE WIRES together. Oh yeah, this particular light fixture is in the BATHROOM. No electrical hazards here. 5. The mini blinds wouldn't go all the way down, so you could see straight into our room. Normally, I wouldn't really complain about this since I'm staying on the third floor. However, the view looks right into the multi-level Marriott garage. I'm sure someone got a great show from us this weekend. 6. A mouse crawled across the floor early in the morning. Whatever you do, proceed with caution.
This sad, dilapidated hotel is the only hotel that inspired me to write a review - sadly ALL negative. Avoid this hotel. This isn't 'no frills' - it is NOT maintained, cheap beyond words, and barely serviceable. We needed an elevator for our handicapped traveler - and that motivated our choice. We regretted it. They don't have enough towels, wash clothes, or hair dryers for every room. We had to 'wait' for other guests to leave in order to get a dryer or wash cloth. Mid-stay they tried to charge more $$ for our 3rd guest's towels - while SIMULTANEOUSLY failing to provide maid service or resupply basics like toilet paper. It is a sad, sad building.
I stayed here last March. The location is awesome. The elevator had some kinks to it. It was just the door, it was perfectly safe. The hotel isn't that great to look at and even though it didn't look clean it was. It's an old building, yes there is going to be funny smells and things may not be "high class" but when you go to NOLA you go for the experience not the hotel room. The staff was really nice and helpful and the room itself was clean and well looked after. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.
Sketchy elevator was shut down just after we'd arrived had us climbing 4 flights of stairs to our rooms, and the locking mechanism in our door also broke on the 1st day. The desk attendant refused to come look herself until she'd given me new cards and several other people had tried the door = I had to climb the 4 flights of stairs 3 times before she finally came up with me on my 4th ascent. One in our party has a surgical knee, and even considering that along with the broken door issue, they "refused" to change or rooms, claiming the only other available rooms did not have working ACs... I would never book here again.
We stopped by to check in before a wedding, and asked where to park. We were given a map and told where several parking lots were and that they were around $50 per day to park there. We come back a few hours later and check in after we parked about 8 blocks away and walked with our luggage to the hotel. We were given 2 keys, one did not even work to open the door to the room. The elevator is ancient....it closes super fast and you need to hold it open with alot of force to get more than one person in the elevator, thankfully we didn't have tons of luggage. The carpet is torn, the sheets are stained, and the bathroom is dirty. At this point we are dissapointed, but tired, so we go to bed. My husband wakes up around 1:45am to use the restroom. While he is in there I hear him hollar....a rat ran from under the sink/vanity area behind the toilet. After it heard my husband it ran back under the sink/vanity. We tried to call the front desk, but the phone doesn't ring the front desk and there is no information on how to contact them by phone. We get dressed and go down to the front desk and explain our situation. We ask for another room, but are told there are no other rooms available. My in-laws live in the area, so we check out. The manager was not on duty, so we have to call back today to deal with getting our refund. Not happy at all.
first of all let me say that we always stay in the older hotels.....i like them. elevator was still broken......you had to go outside and up what looked like the service entrance..i little creepy....security???!?? then we start to take showers to go to the show.....no towels. had to go down to get towels...........a/c wasnt working. well, at least not good. we turned it down before we went out......hoping it would be cold when we came back.....nope. it was very early morning and i knew there were no maintanance people because i had already tried to get a remote for the tv and they said that was a maintanance issue.........so no remote either. i might go back if we are only going to stay for one night, but not for any longer. although the people were very nice thanks
We were driving from Florida and wanted to stop for the night in new orleans so we found this place, and despite the negative reviews we decided to try it out. We had booked earlier, received confirmation codes, and had been charged already. When we got there I tried to show her our reservation but all she said was "nope." I showed her the confirmation as well as the debit for the hotel. She so they're was no vacancy and was very short and rude with me. We were stranded in new orleans for the night with my money still stuck in limbo while it was returned. Terrible customer service, it was old and worn, and I will never go back. We found a much nicer hotel a little further away with a much nicer facility for cheaper. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!
Great oysters and the gumbo was very good and the bread pudding was tasty and hit my sweet spot
Very very nice I was absolutely impressed
