City Butcher and Barbecue

I'm from Central Illinois and just happened to notice this place while driving and I am so glad I did! Tried the brisket...it was awesome, great flavor, SUPER TENDER, and well worth every penny paid. If you get a craving for brisket do your taste buds a favor and eat here. The staff treated us like old friends. If I lived in Springfield Missouri I would eat here all the time! SO GLAD WE FOUND THIS PLACE! Totally understand why they get five star ratings.

The meat here is a perfect 10. I got the pork belly and brisket sandwich. It had amazing flavor and the house bbq sauce made it even better. My husband got the hot links and brisket sandwich which he loved. I personally didn't care for the hot links but then again I almost never do. My husband loves that kind of stuff and he loved them so I say go for it. I will say that you should only go here for the meat. The potato salad was very average and didn't have much flavor or character. The baked beans I liked even less. They had a lot of smoky flavor but lacked an adequate amount of molasses. They were also a bit watery for my liking. Save some money and just order a side of the meat or a sandwich. The best part is all the meat they make can be ordered by the pound (or any other amount you want) and taken home. I think in the future I may do something like that. If you aren't sure where to start just go for the brisket. It's some of the best we have ever tried. I only gave this place 4 instead of 5 stars because the side dishes just aren't very good.

Not impressed with the food at all! The customer service is great, atmosphere is great. Pork had hardly any flavor. Tasted more like crock pot pot shoulder. They have 3 sauces to choose from. 1 is mustard base, the other 2 are vinegar base. The beans are also very vinegary, and I think Wal Mart serves better potato salad.

The reviews were good so I got a # of pulled pork and brisket to bring home for dinner. My daughter and I picked around all the fat in the pork to make a sandwich but my husband wouldn't eat any of it, it was about 1/2 fat.

This place is a little pricey but the food is SO GOOD. The meat is flavorful and the sauce is amazing. Best bbq I’ve ever had. Customer service is also great. Would recommend.
