Absolutely love the Clarks Hill Lake for above-water sports. However, the main problem with the lake is visibility. When the Corps of Engineers built the damn that made Clarks Hill Lake, also known as Lake Thurmond, they did so in an area with a lot of clay. This means that anytime there is a rain any small bit of a rosian will enter the water and a visibility in Lake really really really goes down. This makes it difficult for some types of fishing and especially for scuba diving. There is a scuba site at the Eastern end of the dam where there's a sunken airplane which is nice but the water is often pretty low visibility making this a slightly more than a basic dive.

We slept on the lake for a couple nights. Apparently there's great fishing judging by the amount of bass boats on the lake.

Beautiful lake! We really enjoy spending time with our family on Clark's Hill Lake. One of the most peaceful lakes in the south. Great fishing and nice recreation spots too.
