SAVE YOURSELF - DO NOT MOVE HERE In the past 5 years, this is the only place in Northern Virginia I've hated living in. Never have I experienced such incompetence and hostility from an apartment complex before, and I've only been here for 3-4 months! 1 In our first week, management and maintenance ignored a gas leak TWICE, then I was yelled at by the community manager when I came down to follow up on a stove replacement because the fire department came. 2 The leasing office hasn't had a building manager in months, and turnover is so high that I ended up with a lease that was $300 more per month than my original quote because the staff failed to resolve a systems error in a timely manner. 3 Another instance of ignoring major problems and writing them off as "user error": We had an electrical problem that made the power go out in part of our unit, which we initially thought was the breaker switch. The breaker switch didn't work, however. It took several attempts before multiple components in the breaker box were finally replaced so we didn't have multiple outages per week anymore. 4 This week, there was a major water incident when a pipe burst. I understand that things like this happen in older buildings, but the response to the problem is what I take issue with more than with the incident itself. I asked a member of maintenance staff in the hall if there were any mold prevention plans. He said, "Oh, that's not mold, those are just water stains! We'll just paint over those." This is after a week of communications from management saying "we have it under control" as literally nothing is done about the problem. If you value your health and safety, Crystal House is not the apartment for you. As I can't give zero stars on google, here are some good points for the single star: -The concierge staff is friendly and almost always available for package pickup. -Crystal City is a great location, and this apartment is about a block from the metro -It's *technically* cheaper than some other apartments nearby, but as you can see, you get what you pay for. I would have loved to have stayed in our previous apartment, but with the incoming wave of Amazon buildings and the housing prices being as high as they are, all the rent prices are skyrocketing.
I lived here from 2013-2015. To date, it is still the best place I’ve ever lived. The pool was a joy. The neighborhood was so convenient and fun. The view was spectacular. And the gym was awesome too. I took off one star because even though I cleaned the apartment and left it the way I found it, the old management kept my entire $1552 deposit and still wanted several hundred dollars more for “cleaning”. It was during the time when they were adding washers/dryers to the apartments and renovating. So I guess all my money went into the current renovated style of the apartments. Overall, I would return to the neighborhood to live.
I have lived in Crystal House since 2019. I have lived in many different areas in Northern VA in the last 20 years. Living at Crystal House is the happiest I've ever been. The location is fantastic, amenities and pool fabulous and the apartments comfortable and spacious. The best thing though is the staff! Everyone from the leasing office, maintenance team and concierge makes living here feel like being part of a special community. Speaking of concierge: I call Kathleen "sunshine". I see her every morning. Kathleen's beautiful smile, positive attitude, bright hello and treats for my pups always gets my day started on the right foot. She is always so enthusiastic and generous with her offers to help with anything we need. Thank you Crystal House for making my life and home so wonderful!
Of all the places I’ve rented from, I haven’t had a better application and move-in experience than with Crystal House. Owain from the leasing office took care of us from start to finish and has consistently shown that he was invested in us while providing the best customer service. He did this by connecting with us as tenants, and taking ownership of the whole process. My partner and I super appreciated his kindness and professionalism. The concierge staff are also very kind and personable. The unit we moved into was clean on move-in, and amenities like pool, gym, and common areas are impressive. I’m able to put in service requests, check received packages, and more with their app which is super convenient. All things considered, my experience so far here has been superb and made me excited to rent here. If you also want to feel taken care of and you can afford to rent here, I’d consider touring to see if this place is for you.
I've lived in Crystal House for quite a few years and love it here. The location is great. It is close to the metro station, stores, restaurants, a shopping center and a beautiful bike path along Potomac. The amenities and the pool are fabulous and the apartment is comfortable and spacious with lots of light. The management team is very responsive, nice and friendly. Maintenance is always timely and people are pleasant and very helpful. As the most recent example, my microwave stop working and a new one had to be ordered. I was upset about not having a microwave for several days. Mauro and Ti brought me a small temporary unit to use until a new microwave arrived. I very much appreciate such a thoughtful gesture from their great team. Overall, I would very much recommend Crystal House to anybody looking to a place to live in a pleasant environment within a close proximity to everything Washington has to offer.
Living here has been the best experience I’ve had yet. This is my first apartment and I love it. I recommend people if they want to live in Arlington I would say come to Crystal house. The Front desk concierge Kathleen is the best person with information about the property and having great customer service.
Had a wonderful time moving in to Crystal House. My roommate and I unexpectedly called the leasing office to see if we could drop by for an impromptu tour, but Owain from the leasing office was very courteous and assured us that we could definitely drop by. He took care of our whole application process and it went by very smoothly. While we had a few issues moving in, the maintenance team and concierge were very supportive and nice. Thank you for the wonderful time so far!
I lived here for 2 years, it was overall pleasant experience. Below are my honest comments: Pros: 1 Perfect environment and location of the neighborhood. Very safe and quite area. Love the proximity to the metro station. Stores, groceries, cafes, restaurants and a shopping center all within walking distance. Next to the fire station, I believe it’s also a huge plus for safety matters. 2Amenities are great, love the rooftop gym, the pool and the club room, especially the pool! Could be the largest outdoor poor in the area. 3 Great management. The leasing office was very responsive. The concierge was very nice and helpful too. User-friendly online portal for residents. Many free events. 4 Maintenance was very efficient. 5 Abundant storage space in our apartment. Cons: 1 Roaches! Roaches! Roaches!!! I’m good with German and other smaller kinds, but definitely no way for American roaches. Unfortunately, here I saw American roaches from time to time especially in summer! I lived on the 9th floor and tried my best to keep my apartment clean, but there were still quite a few! Can’t imagine for those who lived on lower floors. Called pest control several times, but roaches still came back. I know in DC, it’s impossible to eradicate roaches in this type of aged apartments even after renovation. So if you can’t put up with American roaches’ visits, it’s better to look for some newer apartments in this area, and of course, on a upper floor. A friend of mine who lived on the 16th floor of a nearby apartment had never seen a single roach of any size during 2 years. 2 Poor sound insulation between walls. But I know this is a common problem here in the US.
Great location, [relatively] reasonable price points for each unit. The concierge/front desk staff are almost always helpful Kathleen remembers most of the tenant's apartment numbers when retrieving packages! Also goes out of her way to greet people as they come in and leave, technicians happily come in to provide maintenance where needed usually respond within 48 hours, and grocery stores such as Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Giant are all within walking distance.
I lived in 1900 for a year. If it weren't for the $200 increase for my studio, I think I would have continued to stay here. The best thing about this apartment is their maintenance team- When I send in a repair request, they show up within 24 hours, they did their job efficient and friendly, they deserve encouragement! But there are some missing as well: 1. I think the cleanliness of public spaces, like elevators, could be better, especially the junkyard. If you live at the back of the building, even if you're on the 8 floor, you'll smell the junkyard and wake up every morning with the sound of garbage trucks you can hear sounds even if just someone is sorting the garbage 2. I had several unpleasant experiences with the front desk and the leasing office. For example, the leasing office accused me of not submitting a move-out invoice 60 days ago and intended to charge me an extra month's rent, but they actually lost my invoice. However, this matter was resolved smoothly later. I just want to remind people should pay attention to the communication with the leasing office
