Daran's Southern Soul Food And West Indian Cuisine

I'm from the South and miss comfort food. My mom and I stopped in for lunch and we were not disappointed. She had the fried catfish, I had the classic fried chicken with Mac and cheese. It was amazing. The chicken was perfect the breading was perfect not too much not too little. The Mac and cheese was the best I've had in years and the cornbread is mouthwatering. I can't wait to go back!

Hands down one of the top three best tasting restaurants in the FM Area and for only $15.00 a plate. My fried chicken was made to order hot and at at our table within ten minutes. I had amazing sides of mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and corn bread. The service was wonderful and sincere in a way a lot of restaurants strive to be but too often fall short at accomplishing. For example, even though the food was served in take-out boxes we were asked how our meal tasted twice while we dined-in. First by the host a few minutes after being served and then again by the cook on the way out. I need to say this wasn’t by any sort of corporate requirement or mandate. Two on staff and both showed genuine satisfaction in knowing we truly enjoyed our food there. It wasn’t cheap talk. I haven’t witnessed the level of devotion to taste or pride in one’s craft for a very very long time in this town. Truly a wonderful thing to witness.

Friendly service, great food with huge portions. Got to taste a little bit of all the sides when I was in and was completely blown away by all the flavor! Yum. Super comfortable atmosphere with delightful natural lighting. Will definitely be back soon!

It smelled delicious and I couldn't wait to get it home to eat. The baked beans were delicious, and that is where it ended. The sweetcorn was an unappetizing shade of brown. The cornbread was good, but nothing special. It was, however, the catfish that confirmed I would never eat Daran's food again. It had a texture I've never before experienced with fish; it was mushy and, for lack of a better word, mucousy. It was, altogether, a very unappealing meal and, with the exception of the delicious beans, went straight into the trash. It was a complete waste if $16.

Not only was the food incredible, but everything was so uniquely flavored which is something I don’t see often at a southern food place in Fargo. At most of the places here, all the food tastes the same from one to the next. But Daran’s is totally different. OUTSTANDING, definitely go out of your way to stop here!
