Duane Reade

I came to buy beers and jerky to take back to my hotel room to watch the euros soccer semifinal. I got to the checkout and was asked for ID. I showed my government issued UK driver’s license and was told I needed to show my passport. I asked why I was asked only for ‘ID’ if what was actually needed was a passport. The sullenly fool behind the till didn’t bother to answer. I’m more than twice the legal drinking age and definitely don’t look young. I thought this was ridiculous so asked to speak to the manager. The manager came and was even more rude then the fool behind the till - and that was difficult to achieve. I left my goods on the counter and walked out. I decided to go to All Star Sports Bar and Grill just up West 57th to watch the game instead. I commented to the bar staff there about my experience and they told me they weren’t surprised as this Duane Reade is known for the rudest staff in New York. But actually the fools at DR did me a favor because I had a much better experience watching the game at All Star Sports. Avoid this Duane Reade at all costs. Even if you’re dying, go somewhere else for your medicine. These people don’t care about their customers at all. And as per other reviews, their air conditioning never works, so you’re likely to come out a sweaty mess even if they do decide to deign to serve you. This place should be shut down, it has ceased to be useful to the people of New York.

I've visited 4 times in June and they still do not have an AC for the store I literally went in there today and got mad because why is no one working on this next to Trump Tower at that! A month, no AC and sweaty employees who may I add are all Black and Brown. I bought sugar, it was 2 packages left at the beginning of the month and now there are none because I bought them, 2 weeks apart so who is doing the inventory? They dislike their employees and the management should be ashamed. This is America, no one should have to work in 99 degree weather without an AC. The owners need a lawsuit against them!

7:20 a.m and it’s still closed what is going on with this establishment ?!?!?!

Very bad customer service. Would respond negatively to any questions I ask. And rush me to leave if I was not going to buy anything.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT AS THEIR CURRENT MANAGEMENT AND MALE STAFF MEMBER WITH BRAIDS ENCOURAGE DISCRIMINATION. I have had issues at this location as well as their other location up the block due to employee discrimination. Call City Hall, Write to Your State Representatives in NY because evidently Duane Reade encourages this on going Discriminative behavior in August 2018. GO ELSEWHERE BUT NOT HERE.
