Man, what a disappointment. I was in Columbia overnight and wanted some comfort food for dinner. East Bay Deli was across the street from my hotel and a sandwich and soup sounded great. Reviews were overwhelmingly positive so, even better! I walked in and placed a to-go order for a tuna sandwich with cheddar cheese on white bread $10, a bowl of broccoli cheese soup $7 and a brownie $3.50. The sandwich came with a pickle spear and chips. Total was about $22 with tax. Read it again: $22 for a sandwich, soup and a brownie. Don't get me wrong, I knew exactly how much everything cost, I just thought — based on the reviews — it'd be worth it. It wasn't. The tuna was nothing special, though I appreciate them putting boiled egg in it. Thus, the sandwich was nothing special — it was literally something I've made at home tons of times. The thickening agent in the soup, whether it was corn starch or flour, was easy to feel in the mouth. Not quite grainy but definitely chalky. Also, for $7, I expected a larger amount of soup. The "bowl" serving is larger than a "cup" serving, but the cup is $6. I wonder how different they really are in size, especially when dining in. The chips were fine, just run-of-the-mill potato chips. The brownie was fine, too, if a little stale; at least it tasted good. So, yeah, disappointing is what I'd call this meal. Everything was serviceable, but it came across much more like hospital cafeteria food than respectable delicatessen as respectable as one can get in the South. The place gets 2 stars instead of 1 because the staff was friendly and the place looked clean. Still: $22 for a sandwich, soup and a brownie.
Had a pretty lame salad with a scoop of chicken salad on top. Lettuce looked old. Almost $17 for lunch with the salad, tea and a cookie. Not too impressed.
Very good tomato bisque. I got the tuna melt and it was soggy by the time I drove it home to eat it. 10 minute commute and the bread was matching the tuna consistency. Not sure if I should have asked for the bread to be toasted prior to adding the tuna or if tuna melts aren't their star menu item but its what I craving and hoped for better
Good sandwiches but watched management berate a customer today for touching the salad bar. I could see he was humiliated by his face. Felt bad for him. The guy kept going trying to justify to people in the kitchen as to how he always looks for people that touch the salad bar to call out. Could have been handled a lot better. I could tell his co workers were embarrassed. sure hope this guy isnt the franchise owner
The hot dog was great but the bun was stale and hard. Tomato bisque was a little bitter. Coffee didn’t have enough coffee in it. No cream for coffee. Other than that it was a perfect meal.
We stopped by on our way back from a trip late at night and it was perfect. The people here were so nice and the food was exactly what we were looking for. It was reasonably priced as well
Came in on 11/16. Walk-In to pick up my online order only to walk-in to two employees yelling and cussing at each other. Only 1 employee is working register taking orders. He helps one person then walks away and starts playing on his phone!? I literally had to ask for service and he got mad because i asked him to do his job. Some of the worst customer service I have gotten anywhere and will not come back.
Please tell me what is going on! This deli is so interested in charging you for every item instead of giving customers what they order. I ordered a turkey on whole wheat with lettuce, tomatoe and green pepper. When I got home it was only stale brown bread not whole wheat bread with only turkey. I was done when the bread fell apart and the bread was not edible. Took a look at the receipt and there was a charge for green pepper but it didn't make it to the unedible sandwich. This deli used to be #1 on my list. I hope they shape up.
I was thinking wow, this baked potato is huge, but there was like a tsp of dried up bacon, 1 tblsp of sour cream, and 9 tiny lil 1MM square cubes of butter.....and it was 8.99. I know there's inflation, but SERIOUSLY?? very disappointed It was DRY, and it was "an extra charge for more sour cream" will not be on my list of places to go eat
I ordered a ham, cheese, bacon, lettuce tomato sandwich from the menu board and a side of coleslaw for takeout. Got back to my office and the sandwich was some ham, cheese and a piece of bacon on gummy sara lee wheat bread, not even toasted. The coleslaw was a small cup and some of the worst I have ever tasted. Slim sandwich and unpalatable coleslaw, no drink $16. You can make the same sandwich at home for one tenth the cost and bring to work. Pathetic.
