Very poorly organized program, sadly. I went for treatment at a much more established residential program out of state, and when returning to TX, went to ERC in Houston as my IOP program. So many issues, including: neglectful processes no monitoring of meal plan adherence, no monitoring of behaviors at meals or in group discussions, acceptance of disengaged behavior as the norm, no supervision of quality control, and much more. It was just a huge letdown, other than the few people that were somewhat kind and interested in helping others. I believe the management at the time was in transition, so that may have been part of the issue. This was in fall of 2018. I cannot believe the poor reviews of this branch and the Dallas branch. If you are seeking treatment, just know that there is help. Don't give up, and don't think you are doomed to be treated as another number. Keep up the good fight and do not give up. Treatment - excellent care - is out there, especially if you do your part to give it your very best. These problems are not easily solved, but you can make so much progress and get stronger from the moment you engage fully. Get mentally into your recovery so you can leave this $hit behind!
This place made my eating disorder worse. I went in wanting to recover, and the longer I was there, the more I wanted to relapse. The staff is infuriating and condescending at times. Oh, and meal times? Hope you dont mind rushing and shoving food in your face to avoid being supplemented. 30 minutes is not enough time for an entire meal. Thats not normalized pacing in the slightest. The groups are laughable at best. The only worthwhile one is letting go of ED, and that one only happens once a week. This place does nothing for people with ARFID. All of the groups are geared toward restricting eating disorders. You would think that a place like this would be cognizant of all eating disorders, not just the ones that get the most media attention.
Not sure why the previous reviewer gave ERC one star without an explanation, but I'm extremely grateful for their program and the new hope they've given me for recovery. I've struggled with an eating disorder for 19 years now and have been to several treatment centers, and this is probably the best treatment program and the best therapy team that I've ever worked with. They use research-backed methods; treat the whole person mentally, emotionally, and physically; offer family therapy; have at least one dietician and an MD in addition to several therapists available every day of the week; offer an intensive PHP program up to 63 hours/week along with IOP; and their staff really, truly care about each and every client and his or her recovery. My therapist meets with me several days of the week, and she is even available by text during non-program hours. I know that recovery will be a long process, but I feel that I'm in a better place with ERC's help than I've been in long time.
my wife is dying, 80 pounds and we called desperate just to get laughed away and talked over by the receptionist. this place WILL NOT HELP YOU IF YOUR ACTUALLY SICK. they hung up on her and then yelled over me on the phone when i called back. this place can close there doors and shut down and then maybe it will be of more help to my dying wife once there is nothing left.
