What a wonderful place to go birding, walking, and bring the kids for a little exploration! It is super clean, it has bathrooms, and very clearly marked trails. There is a driving tour you can take which is about 8 miles and it is gorgeous! The birds are so plentiful. We even saw a bald eagle! There is an entrance fee, it's an honor system. Check the website for exact fees but I think it's 2.00 for walking, 4.00 to drive it.

This refuge is a Gem! No matter what time of year you go here, there's always something also to see or do. It's definitely a birders paradise in so many ways. There's a huge variety of birds ranging from birds or prey to scavengers to waterfowl and everything in between. I highly recommend a lens with some reach to ensure you can grab a hold of some great shots. Time of day is not always important as there's always activity here. It's a 10 mile loop you can enjoy from the comfort of your car too. Additionally there's a roughly 4 mile song bird trail and other walking paths as well. Rainy day, no problem, head over to the buildings and check out what else you can do and see. At $4 a trip for a solo ride you can't go wrong! If you're interested in coming more often, $12 for a 1 year season pass and you can drive the refuge every day it's open. Bargain!

This is a great place for exploring local wildlife. We came here to go birding and saw a wide variety of waterfowl including ducks, geese, cormorants, and a blue heron. There is a long Gravel Road about 8 Miles that goes in a big loop around the park through the saltwater marshes. This gives you a great opportunity to see large flocks of birds that are migrating through the area. There are also some areas of woodland and grasslands where you could see other types of birds and animals. There is a small entrance fee to drive in the park. Be prepared and bring $4 in cash so you can have exact change. There is a small sign with some envelopes where you can drop off the money in a little box as you enter the park. I went inside and paid in person and the people there were very helpful and very friendly. Highly recommended if you want to spend a couple of hours of observing nature.

What a beautiful day. We wanted to bike the loop road, however we turned back after a mile because it was too bumpy. Not to worry as we decided to walk the Songbird Trail. A true delight.
