Everything from the service to the food to the outside courtyard was amazing. The stuffed avocado appetizer topped any food I’ve ever had at a Mexican restaurant all over the country. The corn tortilla was handmade perfection. Even the chips and salsa stand out as exceptional. The mole covered burrito definitely hit that mole spot. I can’t wait to go back and try more of their menu. The courtyard was quiet and comfortable. No idea a busy neighborhood was just over the wall. The waiter was busy but seemed to show up exactly when we needed her. She was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.
The setting and service were great. The table side guacamole was superb! Fresh and flavorful. The pineapple margarita was d’bomb!!
This restaurant was amazing!! I ordered the vegetable quesadilla and it was incredible! Chips and salsa a little heat were delicious! The strawberry margarita was amazing as well! Highly recommend!
My wife and I had a great dining experience here toning. Our waiter, Jarron might be spelled wrong did an excellent job. Since we were visiting New Orleans we were not expecting to find such a good Mexican restaurant. We started with the ceviche and cucumber chips. This is the first place I've been where they prepared it in front of you. Next we had the guacamole, also prepared at the table. We shared the mixed grilled and it was on point. None of the food was overcooked and very tasty. In the land of crawfish and seafood gumbo this place is worth a departure from New Orleans name sacks. Enjoy.
I went in the middle of the day on a weekday for lunch. Plenty of staff. Host was very sweet. Server was not happy to be there. We were her only table and it still took and hour and a half to get lunch. When my lunch arrived, the enchiladas looked like they were sitting out for hours. They were really dry, like really dry. They slapped sour cream on a plate to make the rest of the dish look good. Was super dissapointing for the price. I hadn't been in years so I was really looking to going. But I won't be back. Bummer :
You should come here if you like tables of screaming children or if you prefer to bring your own. The table guacamole was the best item we ate but could certainly do better at home. The menu looks varied but in fact it is all mostly the same and overpriced for what you get. The chips and salsa however were quite tasty. Kid-friendliness: Staff was very tolerant of all the screaming children. We were not
Ordered take out last night 5/3/2022, much to my surprise there was a 20% gratuity/service charge and a non cash adjustment charge of $1.10 added to the bill. This is not the way to do business. While I understand credit cards are an added expense to the establishment a 20% gratuity/service charge on a pickup to go order is unacceptable. We will never order from here again. Sad that a restaurant would do this type of thing. Adios El Gato Negro...
Waitress was attentive. The salsa was delicious and the chips were warm and very tasty. Unfortunately, the flank steak, in my burrito, was tough. The guacamole was not flavorful. Finally, at home and discovered that my take out order was messed up. I paid for the surf and turf taco meal, but instead of shrimp and steak, I was given shrimp and chicken. That mistake may have been excusable when I imagine that the steak would have probably been tough and chewy.
12/12/2020 - Years later we find ourselves returning with friends to remodeled dinningroom for another go. Ordered the grill plate, guacamole, ceviche, and some other items. Friendly service, timely presentation, and great quality food made a definite impression. Everything was great and we were able to enjoy our time with friends. Oh... even offered me a cold glass this time... imagine that! Previously... Decided to stop in for lunch and grab a fajita plate. I almost asked for a new table since the hostess sat us directly at the kitchen window and doors. The menu was interesting but way overpriced. The combo fajitas jump from $25 to $35, so you figure it's significantly more food and while we didn't need more to fill us for lunch... it was a dinner entree. My wife's mojito was excellent but my beer came with a giant lime and no glass. Your either a $30/plate establishment or you're NOT. The entire time they were working on inventory at the table behind us, employees ordered pizza at our table on a cell phone, I even know who's working what section for the next full week. Dishes clanking, employees yelling for each other and scraping of plates being bussed from tables, were the highlights of our meal. After finding a different waiter... we were able to get some extra napkins and water. Salsa and chips are one serving only. Food was good and we actually had nothing leftover... a first for us! Lol The service and atmosphere was horrific and we will never be back.
Was excited to try this location but the food is not as great as the others. I almost feel like the quality is different. I also expected a great reading salsa, but it just reminded me of Pace. I loved the look of the place and the decor.
