El Patrón - Taco & Tequila Bar

Have to agree with other poor reviews of this place: drinks were slow to arrive, food was slow to arrive (we were told there was a big party there ... so that should harm our service?), and we had to beg for silverware -- which didn't include a needed knife -- which arrived about 10 minutes after the food. We also sat surrounded by dirty tables that no one seemed willing to clean up. The food itself was OK, but overall this was a disaster.

Went there and the workers were all childish, dancing instead of attending there tables! The water jugs were super dirty one of the ones we got had a coin in it. The cups we got were not washed properly and the prices are super high! Taco bell is cheaper, cleaner and faster! Dissapointed and grossed out.

This USED to be one of my favorite places in Iowa City. My friends and I came every Thursday last fall, the service was great, the food was actually good and you didn’t feel like you were being ripped off. My most recent time, when my friend and I received our tacos, they were the SADDEST excuse I had seen from them. My “side of jalapeños” was, not even joking, the whole, uncut jalapeño presented with the quarter full tortillas. So naturally I requested my server to send them back to the kitchen, she politely said she would get someone from the kitchen (just as any good establishment with respect for their customers would do). The server came back, took my plate and “was going to take it back to the kitchen.” About one minute later, the server brought back THE SAME PITIFUL TACOS. The girls that were among my group, were charged for Margaritas that they weren’t delivered until my friends saw their bill and had to tell the server. The queso used to edible, melted cheese but now it is only melted butter. It’s sad to see a local business have this little respect for the locals who are supporting it and their employees I used to be a loyal customer, but I refuse to support an establishment that treats its customers like this.

The service is HORRENDOUS. The servers make it seem like you (as a customer) are doing THEM an inconvenience by being there, and they have awful attitudes. The food is cheap and gross. The past few times I have ordered margaritas, they have been terrible and a waste of my money. It's sad because I once used to like this place, but as I come back time and time again, I am disappointed more and more. I refuse to come back ever again and I will not recommend it to anyone in the Iowa City area. Don't waste your time here, you're better off going to McDonald's for a quick bite.

The tacos and margaritas are pretty good. I have been there a few times with a couple of friends at the maximum each time and the service has always been really bad. Not only was it extremely slow each time but when the serving staff would forget something or mess an order up (which they did every time) they would become very rude when kindly asked to fix it. I would understand if the establishment was very busy at the time but each time I was there, it was not very busy and there were 3-4 of the serving staff just standing around and yet the service just to get our initial greeting (to get drink orders) took 20 minutes. In total the experiences took over an hour and fifteen minutes each for something that should take less than 40. Overall: solid food and drinks, good specials, but the WORST service I have ever consistently received from a restaurant.
