Elsmere BBQ and Wood Grill

We ordered to go, paid via text app, and picked up right inside the door. The staff were super friendly and the place was very nice looking. We tried the pick 3 and got an order of brisket nachos for the family to share. Great food at a reasonable price. The pick 3 was plenty for 2 adults to split. We will be back

Staff was super nice! And the food was delicious and very filling. It was our first time eating here. I ordered the burrito tornado and my fiance ordered the special which was a chicken and brisket BBQ ranch flatbread with scallions and red onions. I highly recommend checking out this restaurant- you wont be disappointed!

What a difference a location makes… love the South Portland location but this one is a BIG NO. Worst brisket I have ever had & the ribs had so much gristle & super dry & lacked flavor they weren’t worth the trouble of eating them. I had the exact same meal at the different locations one week from another. The two meals could not have been any different. I will NOT be coming back to the Portland location ever again. It is South Portland only for me & I suggest for you too. Service was good & I want to point that out. But food wise this place is not good.

We just had Elsmere cater our wedding and we couldn’t have been more pleased! Everyone raved about our food!! Elsmere has been our favorite place for years and having them cater our wedding was an easy decision! Placing the order and organizing with Molly was stress free! Thank you Elsmere for making a very important part of our special day go smoothly!

I've ordered take out from Elsmere at least 10 times over the past year. I have always been very pleased. The food was excellent and worth the money. I ordered last night, and it was not the same. The pulled pork had a lot of fat in it and tasted like it had been made the day before. The chicken was good but also didn't taste fresh. The coleslaw was different. It had SO much mayonnaise in it. It was soupy and gross, I did not eat it. Even the cornbread was different. I'm not usually a fan of cornbread but I've always loved it from this place. Not anymore. The meat on the nachos also tasted old. I'm very disappointed. I don't know what has changed. My order totalled $72. Previously, I didn't mind paying that much for 2 people because it was excellent. This time I feel like it was a waste of money. Half of the food was thrown away. I will not be ordering from Elsmere again. Update: I received a very nice email from the owner apologizing, and offering to make the situation right. This also included an explanation as to why this happened, and that they were unaware of some of the things I mentioned in my post. Now with my feedback, they can work on getting their restaurant back to the awesome establishment it used to be. They could not have handled this situation any better! I'm changing my review, and will order again soon.

Pretty stellar food. If your child is picky this may be a pass, but as far as ribs, brisket, and pulled pork, this has a fairly reasonable price point for the serving size, and quality of food you get. I'll definitely go again, but I will go when there aren't so many kids screaming. It was incredibly loud. My 6 y/o was looking at the kids on awe. He knows he can't act like that.

I'm sorry I can not give more stars because I really wanted to like this place. It is a very cute spot and inviting, but, it just missed the mark for me. Maybe a bad afternoon? I noticed only one waitperson which is tough I'm sure, but, we never did get our clean forks after sending back the gritty ones. We did ask a few times. So spoons worked. Our food was on the cold side and dry. My bun was stale and falling apart from over toasting. If you do like chips there is plenty of that, plenty. Cornbread was warm and tasty however.! Sorry I just can not give more than two stars. Thank You

A neighborhood, family friendly, BBQ joint. A great place for a beer and good food. Fun, with a helpful, friendly staff.

It didn't strike me as the kind of place that I would love, but man was I wrong. Perfectly cooked BBQ and phenomenal sauce. Flavor-saturated chicken and tasty ribs. Unique beans and good quality for bread. Really good food. Another big compliment is reasonable beer prices. As of Oct 2021 it's $5 for good stuff and only $3 for domestic tall boys. That will definitely keep me coming back. Dropped one star because the brisket could have used a bit more seasoning though it was cooked to perfection and my rack of ribs was cooked just a *bit* too long. Otherwise a perfect meal and perfect night.

Very disappointed. I was told this place was great but my experience was quite lackluster. It may have just been an off-night for them but here's what: Took 15 minutes from when we were seated for our orders to be taken then an additional 45 minutes for the food to be served. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, mac & cheese, and cole slaw. The pulled pork was OK but rather dry, and I was not given a fork at first so I couldn't touch the rest of the food. Eventually the server came over to check on us and I asked for a fork. The mac and cheese was rather dry and flavorless, and the cole slaw tasted funny. After eating, I was given a bill of $24 and I handed off my card. Came back with a receipt of $32, which was WAY more than I was supposed to pay, so I had to flag down the server and show her what happened and get it corrected before I left. I believe in second chances and might give your business another go, but I was not impressed with my experience tonight. UPDATE: My card got overcharged anyway despite me being polite and showing them it's wrong.
