Reviews
My experience with the Cameroon embassy has been quite the opposite to most of the reviews on here. I have applied for travel documents twice 2014 passport renewal and 2021 visa application. In both instances I have been shocked by the HIGH level of customer service due to the horror stories you continue to hear. In 2014 I was unable to reach the appointment line and sent an email on 4/9 at 10:42AM enquiring if I could make an appointment via email. I received a reply on the same day at 1:54 PM explaining that was not possible. This email also provided additional information on the appointment calendar and when I could expect to have an appointment based on the current files on hand. In September 2021 I applied for a visa to travel home due to a family medical emergency. I sent my package in by mail with all the necessary documents or so I thought. I received a phone call from the embassy requesting documented evidence of the medical emergency. The latter was submitted via email and I got an email acknowledgement stating my documents had been received. I got my passport and visa well within the stated processing time. I also will never forget the exceptional bilingualism of the embassy staff member I interacted with in 2014. This man spoke French and English so fluently, you could have mistaken him for two different people. Now, we all know for a francophone public official from Cameroon, that is rare!I may just be very lucky but my interactions with the Cameroon embassy have been hassle free for the most!
Worse Embassy in the entire world. They are so rude, arrogant and very corrupt . They don’t even give you the chance to talk. We sent a passport there for a visa, paid the visa application fee and return envelope. But we were told the post office has increased postage fee , what ? Yes! that is what the lady at the so called ambassador’s office told us. Okay we asked where is the passport she said it has been mailed but does not know when it was mailed. Well, we waited and up till date we can’t find the US passport we mailed to the Cameroonian embassy in Washington DC. I wish there was somewhere else to go for this visa issue.
One of the worst places you can ever have to deal with. In fact the worst place. They are unprofessional and heartless. They do not care about the traveling plans you have made or how much it would cost you to reschedule all that. I paid for expedited visa and they never got it done. Missed my flight and still do not have my passport. I called from Tuesday to Friday for hours, with 10 to 15 minutes intervals, and not a single human being answers. They don't answer phones nor respond to emails. So you are left helpless and blind and not knowing what to do. Brining the bad habits from home to a foreign land. This is why Cameroon never progresses and people do not respect us as a nation. PLEASE AVOID THEM AT ALL COST. It might be expensive to get your visa from somewhere else, but you will save yourself on emotional distress. AVOID.
Please, can I know the steps involve if a U.S citizen is to travel to Cameroon without this visa from the embassy? I have some urgent businesses to do in Cameroon and can’t afford to risk my passport after reading all these scary reviews
The people working here are awful. They disregard travel arrangements and money spent on tickets even though they ask for your travel itinerary, that hills and keep your passport eventhough you pay for return mail. Then you lose everything and have to spend money to reschedule international tickets.
Waouh, i Just called them to know the status of my documentlaissez passer since it is supposed to do a week to be processed . A woman picked up the phone. She was sooo ruuudeee on the phone by yelling, screaming at me asking me questions. She didn’t even resolve my issue. And she just hung up.
I can't blame the embassy people, they are doing their best to satisfy customers. Some of you commenting think that because you are in the USA, things must go quick as said. Have you ever tried renewing a green card or doing any document relating to citizenship in the USA? it takes more than 6 months to go through and up to 1 year or more for you to get it. Please, always exercise patience and know that people at the embassy are human beings too. I can guarantee anyone reading this review that contrary to all the negative comments, there has been great strides and the customer service is better.
Updated to 3 stars: My passport was shipped back to me. If you are planning a trip to Cameroon, please plan for a month for them to have your passport. Also note, your dates for your visa will be exactly what you put on the application, so if there is a delay, you can't just push back your trip by that many days. ------ Unfortunately, like other people who have posted, the Embassy appears to have lost my passport. It is basically impossible to get anyone on the phone. No one responds to emails. And no response on Facebook either. I will miss my flight as it's now too late for my passport to be sent. The instructions said 7 business days. It's been 3 weeks with no holidays. I can't even get them to simply respond if my passport is still at the embassy. The receptionist, the 2 times I was able to reach her, just kept telling me I had to be patient and talking with a tone like I was ruining her life by calling.
Getting a visa to Cameroon can be a task. I had questions about the dossiers, but the embassy did not answer the telephone or respond to emails. I was hesitant to mail our official documents & passports off to them without knowing if there was anyone on site. Would our passports sit on a sidewalk in front of an empty building? Fortunately, I had the time and proximity to make a trip down to DC, where I found the ladies at the consular section to be pleasant, helpful, and hard at work. We got our visas in plenty of time. But if I had lived far from DC, I'm not sure what I would have done. My advice: follow the application guidelines precisely and trust that they will handle your passport responsibly. But sadly, I had to go all the way to DC from Pittsburgh to find that out. Great staff, poor communication.
I submitted an application, and made payment, to renew passport. But I exited the website without selecting a date to go to th embassy for the renewal. The website wouldn't let me log in and select a date. So I called. Nothing work well: 1. It took my days, trying everyday, to get someone on phone. 2. She came on phone and was really rude and disrespectful and told me she didn't have time to be explaining things to me and that she had other people to talk to. 3. She didn't seem to have a clue of what I need. But instead of listening and trying to navigate it with me, she got rude and left. Why don't we leave some of our horrible behaviors back home and do things like they are done here In the U.S? It's a shame that y'all treat your own people like trash.
