I have used this Embassy twice in the last year for business visas and both times the experience has been amazing. I travel often for work and pleasure so am no stranger to the process of applying for visas and all the stress that goes with it- I can definitely say this embassy has been the best I’ve ever dealt with. Raymond at the Embassy of Mozambique is AMAZING and goes above and beyond to make sure things go smoothly. Follow his instructions and you will for sure have a smooth and positive experience. Thank you so much to the team for such professional and friendly service!!!
We loved working with Raymond. He fixed the problems created by another Visa provider!
This embassy was grossly negligent. I sent my visa application with expedited shipping, and received a confirmation that my envelope had been delivered to the address. I called the office to inquire about the status of my application, of which they said they never received. I then spent hours trying to track down the location of the package, only to confirm that it went to the right address. I called multiple times until finally I was able to talk to the consulate concerning the issue. His attitude was VERY nasty and condescending. He initially said they “did not receive anything” and kept that stance until I kept probing with questions. While we were on the phone, he managed to find my misplaced application! As he opened my envelope again, while on the phone with me! he scoffed and told me that I did the application incorrectly. I can understand that I made an error, but my application was left idle and unopened for nearly TWO WEEKS. They had my documents i.e. PASSPORT in their possession while I was preparing for international flight in the next 3 days. By LUCK, they were able to return my passport and other documents in time for my flight. This was an absolute nightmare and caused unnecessary stress and inconvenience. Hopefully I will not have to deal with this specific office or the consulate, for that matter in the future.
Please be aware the information on the website is wrong and call Raymond there first and he will advise you on the correct process. He has to send a scanned version of all the information to Mozambique prior to you sending your passports and other information for Visas so do NOT send first and make sure you are planning at least 30 days out for delays. That said Raymond was awesome and got everything done.
It pains me to write a poor review of an embassy representing a country I love very dearly, where more than half of my family lives, but the services offered by the Embassy of Mozambique in Washington, D.C.--which previously worked more efficiently--have been in sharp decline for some time. Over the past decade, a functioning and informative website has now gone completely off-line, inconceivable in this day and age as well as for an office residing in Washington, D.C. Most painful to report is the lack of services provided to Mozambican nationals who live in the U.S. In the past, Mozambican passports were renewed efficiently by the embassy in D.C. Unfortunately, over the last five or so years, with a change to biometric passports as well as a change in staff at the embassy, Mozambican citizens in the U.S. with the old passports were given no prior notice of the change, thus left for years without a way to renew passports in the U.S. Instead, Mozambicans were absurdly counseled by those who answer the phones at the Embassy of Mozambique to either change citizenship to U.S. citizenship or just return to Maputo to renew passports! This left hundreds, maybe thousands, of Mozambican citizens in the United States--who did not have the time or means to make the 8,000-plus-mile journey to Maputo--literally stuck in the U.S. without valid passports and without the Embassy in D.C. taking proactive measures, taking responsibility at all, to rectify this. And lastly, when one makes the heart-wrenching decision to relinquish Mozambican citizenship in order to pursue U.S. citizenship, one then needs to request a visa to return to one's own homeland, but one cannot depend on this embassy in D.C. to process the visa requests responsibly. In June 2018, despite paying for expedited service and providing our own pre-paid envelope for the return of our passports with Mozambican visas, all of our family's U.S. passports were returned late, mailed days after our first flight's departure, and lost in the mail without the envelope being properly sealed. One-by-one, our passports were recovered by the U.S. Postal Service and returned to us in an enveloped stamped "Loose in Mail." By then, we had already been through the substantial stress and expense of having to miss a day of work, drive 8 hours round-trip to the nearest same-day U.S. passport agency, report the passports lost, and request urgent replacement in order to make our 7:00 P.M. flight that same evening! It was only thanks to the extraordinarily efficient passport agency in Atlanta that we arrived at our flight with new passports in hand, making it just five minutes before our gate closed. Of course, upon arrival at the airport in Maputo, we had to request and pay for visas all over again, $150 $50 each in addition to the $480 $160 each we'd already paid to the Embassy of Mozambique. Meanwhile, we spent $585 $195 each in Atlanta just to replace the passports delayed and lost by the embassy. Altogether, we lost $1,065 $355 each for the lost passports and lost visas due to the mistake of entrusting our passports and visas to this embassy in the first place and we are schoolteachers, not millionaires, who saved 8 years for this trip! We have requested a refund of $480 from the Embassy in D.C., the amount we originally paid for "expedited visas." If previous unresponsiveness and misinformation tell us anything from phone calls and emails, then we have little hope of recovering that $480. Of course, if wrong, I will happily report! In any case, for all future trips to Mozambique, we will do everything possible to avoid dealing with the Embassy in D.C. When, in recent years, they have not shown a clear understanding of their responsibility to their own citizens, then perhaps it was naive of us all along to expect them to treat our U.S. passports and visas for our homecoming trip with any more concern. May this be a cautionary tale to anyone still holding what was once the reasonable expectation of a functioning bureaucracy at the Embassy of Mozambique.
Raymund is amazing. He was quick in his responses and went above and beyond to help me. It’s apparent that he cares for his customers . Because if his excellent and professional service he helped a stressful process be much smoother!
I had an excellent experience with this consulate. The visa section answers the phone on the first or second ring. Great customer service. Got our visas in time for our trip. Thank you Embassy of Mozambique!
Over the years we have worked with the Consulate of Mozambique in Washington. We have been provided great services with accurate processing times. Thank you for all of your help, The Authentication Legalization Services Canada Team.
Numerous extensions do not work including the operator, nobody ever picks up the phone, and the embassador office's voicemail is full. Not to be topped, their embassy email address is no longer valid and so you cannot email for help either. A baffling and embarrassing show of ineptitude and apathy when people are so dependent on the assistance of the embassy.
Called and got straight through. The lady on the phone was also excellent. Wish all embassies were this helpful :
